Some Audi e-tron models are receiving an over-the-air (OTA) update that improves the all-electric SUV’s driving range. The revised software was first introduced in 2019 with the debut of the e-tron Sportback in international markets, but the update is now being rolled out to other models of the standard SUV, produced for the 2019 and 2020 model years.

  • OTA software update introduced for Audi e-tron
  • Optimises battery, motor and cooling system performance
  • e-tron owners in India expected to receive the update too

Audi e-tron software updates

Audi says the e-tron 55 quattro has gained a range extension of up to 20km  an increase of roughly five percent. The update enables the model’s battery to deliver higher net usable power, meaning the car can now benefit from 86kWh of its 95kWh battery when driving.

Audi also claims the update optimises the control of the electric motor at the front, disconnecting it in situations where the car requires less power. The cooling system – which Audi says is the basis for fast charging, long battery life and consistent EV driving performance – has also been improved by lowering volume flow rates in the coolant circuit.

How will this affect Audi e-tron owners in India?

Audi e-tron owners in international markets will benefit from the OTA updates introduced by the company, although there is no official word from Audi India on the matter. Customers in our country should see similar gains, especially since the electric SUV is sold here as a full import.

The standard e-tron in India is available in two powertrain options – the 50 quattro, with a 71kWh battery pack, and the 55 quattro, which has a larger, 95kWh battery pack. For now, the models have a claimed range of 264-379km and 359-484km, respectively, as per Europe’s WLTP test procedure.
