In early April, Triumph Motorcycles introduced downsized 350cc versions of its 400 platform in order to benefit from the lower 18 percent GST bracket. While the entry-level Triumph Speed T4 retained its pricing, models higher up the range such as the Triumph Scrambler 400 saw price reductions of up to Rs 11,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Now, a Triumph dealership in Mumbai has indicated via its social media that prices for these new 350cc models are expected to increase by Rs 5,000-10,000 from June 1.

  1. New 350cc platform was introduced in April
  2. Price hike of up to Rs 10,000 expected

Triumph 350cc range price increase

The move to the new GST-compliant platform had lowered prices by up to Rs 11,000

The new Triumph 400 lineup currently consists of six models – the Speed T4, Speed 400, Scrambler 400, Scrambler 400 XC, Thruxton 400, and the recently introduced Tracker 400.

The Speed T4 was the only model that did not receive a price cut following the switch to the smaller-capacity engine and continued at its existing ex-showroom price of Rs 1.95 lakh. The Scrambler 400 and Thruxton 400 benefited the most from the tax revision, with prices dropping by around Rs 10,000-11,000. If the expected price hike materialises, some models could effectively return to pricing levels similar to when they were powered by the larger and more powerful 399cc single-cylinder engine.

Triumph Motorcycles India is yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter. We’ve also reached out to the brand for clarification and will update this story once more information becomes available.

As things stand, if you’re planning to buy one of these motorcycles, it may be worth checking with your nearest dealership soon to confirm the current pricing situation.

What do you think about the push for ethanol blends even higher than E20 petrol?

Good move; it cuts dependence on crude oil imports
I support it as it’s a greener solution than pure petrol
I’ll accept it only if it’s cheaper than E20 petrol
I am concerned about damage to my vehicle
Not good; fuel efficiency will drop even further
