Toyota Lexus India recall 2026

Toyota and Lexus have both issued a voluntary recall for a possible software glitch in the transmission that may affect 969 units of the Land Cruiser and 117 units of the LX SUVs in India. The subject vehicles are Land Cruisers manufactured between September 4, 2024, and September 30, 2025, and LXs produced between March 6, 2025, and September 29, 2025. “The proactive recall campaign aims to reprogram the Transmission Control Computer software, which controls the Transmission Performance,” the brands stated.

  1. Transmission’s solenoid failure alert may not reach the engine control unit
  2. Brands say no cases reported so far in India

What is this transmission software glitch about?

The issue affects the 10speed automatic gearbox of the Land Cruiser and LX

The Toyota Land Cruiser (LC 300) and Lexus LX are both platform siblings, even sharing the same powertrain in several markets, including India. The twin-turbo V6 diesel engine that powers these two body-on-frame SUVs comes mated to a 10-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Controlling the gear shifts of this electronically controlled transmission (ECT) is a set of linear solenoids.

A failure of one of these solenoids may lead the transmission to over-rev in certain gears, which may be a direct result of the gearbox’s electronic control module not communicating the failure to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). Not only can this cause a drop in power to the driven wheels, particularly at higher speeds, but it can also damage the transmission in the process. In select cases, transmission fluid could leak directly onto the hot components that make up the exhaust system, perhaps even leading to a fire.

How are Toyota and Lexus planning to address this issue?

Considering this glitch is limited to the software side of things, all that Toyota and Lexus dealerships supposedly have to do is reprogram the electronic modules controlling the transmission and engine. The voluntary recall campaign will have dealerships of the respective brands reaching out to customers of the affected vehicles for details regarding the recall. In the meantime, customers can also contact an official dealership for more information.
