Jeep has launched the fourth-generation Wrangler at Rs 63.94 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). In India, the SUV is available in its five-door guise and in the top-spec Sahara trim level only.

Styling changes include a lowered beltline, a tweaked version of Jeep’s iconic seven-slat front grille, headlamps with LED DRLs, larger tail-lamps and rear windscreen. Even the tailgate-mounted spare wheel is now positioned lower to aid rear visibility.

Inside, the new Wrangler is more spacious and better-equipped than before. Features include a 7.0-inch multi-info display, an 8.4-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, rear AC vents and multiple 12V sockets and USB ports. Additionally, the infotainment screen also shows a variety of information related to off-roading, ranging from axle status and steering angle to the car’s altitude, longitude and latitude. Pitch and roll angles are also displayed. Standard safety kit on the SUV includes dual airbags, ABS with EBS, ESC, electronic roll mitigation, traction control and hill-start assist.

Powering the new Wrangler is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that’s good for 268hp and 400Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. This engine has been introduced in BS4 form and is expected to be upgraded to comply with BS6 norms later.

The new Wrangler is manufactured at Jeep’s Toledo facility in the USA. The SUV is brought here as a CBU as the government now allows the import and sale of 2,500 vehicles a year without them having to be homologated in India.

The previous-gen Wrangler petrol was launched in India at Rs 56 lakh (ex-showroom, India) in February 2017 and was powered by a 284hp, 3.6-litre V6 petrol or a 200hp, 2.8-litre diesel motor.
