The Hyundai Venue has finally been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). The SUV is on offer in six variants with the choice of three engines. In the crowded compact SUV segment, the Venue aims to stand out with its segment-unique features and competitive pricing. Here are five things you need to know about the Venue.

Hyundai Venue design

Design-wise, the Venue’s silhouette is very similar to its larger sibling, the Hyundai Creta SUV. The Venue has a butch, upright stance that’s sure to appeal to many. Keeping in line with the latest Hyundai SUVs, like the Kona and the new Santa Fe, the Venue features a split-headlamp design with LED DRLs and a large cascading front grille finished in chrome. Also part of the package are LED tail-lights and diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels on top-spec trims. In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai Venue measures 3,995mm in length, 1,770mm in width and 1,590mm in height, while having a 2,500mm-long wheelbase. The ground clearance, meanwhile, is a reasonable 195mm.

Hyundai Venue interior

The Hyundai Venue features a neat and uncluttered dashboard. An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment takes pride of place atop the centre console and lower down you’ll find chunky controls for the air-con system. The cabin comes across as well thought out too, with plenty of storage areas, and there’s a large, well-shaped 350-litre boot too. However, rear legroom is average and the narrow cabin might make it uncomfortable for three passengers at the back.

Hyundai Venue features

Being a Hyundai, the Venue comes packed with features. Top-spec Venues will get cruise control, a sunroof, wireless charging, a cooled glovebox, rear AC vents, a parking camera and an Arkamys sound console. Furthermore, the 8.0-inch touchscreen gets Hyundai’s Blue Link connectivity technology, which comprises 33 features that span safety, security, vehicle management, remote access, alert services, location-based services and AI-based language inputs. The Blue Link technology makes its India debut in the Venue and utilises an embedded Vodafone-Idea SIM card for connectivity.

Hyundai Venue engine and gearbox

The Hyundai Venue gets three engine options – one diesel and two petrols. The solitary diesel is a 1.4-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 90hp and 220Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox only. The base petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, four-cylinder unit that puts out 83hp and 115Nm of torque and comes coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The highlight of the powertrain options, however, is the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit that also makes its India debut on the Venue. The T-GDI Kappa engine puts out a healthy 120hp and 172Nm and comes with the option of a 6-speed manual or a segment-unique 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Hyundai Venue rivals and price

In the compact SUV segment, the new Hyundai Venue faces stiff competition from rivals like Maruti’s Vitara Brezza, Tata’s Nexon, Ford’s EcoSport and the recently-introduced Mahindra XUV300.  Starting from Rs 6.50 lakh for the base petrol MT variant and going up to Rs 11.11 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India) for the top-spec petrol AT variant, the Venue is priced on par with the Vitara Brezza and the Nexon while undercutting the XUV300 and EcoSport. Hyundai has managed to put the Venue right in the mix with its competitors however, only a full comparison and a comprehensive road test will determine if the Venue is a viable alternative to the established competition.
