The Triumph Thruxton 400 has been spotted testing in India yet again. This particular test mule seems production ready, and we expect it to be launched sometime this year.

  1. Will use the same 398cc motor as the other three Triumph 400s
  2. Gets a semi fairing with clip-on bars
  3. Tail section is different to other Triumph 400s

Triumph Thruxton 400: what can be seen?

Bajaj is slated to launch a fourth bike with the 398cc engine – that it jointly developed with Triumph – after the Speed T4, Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X. This engine is available in two states of tune, and it remains to be seen which one is used on this bike; the sportier 40hp engine would fit in better here, though.

This 400cc cafe racer borrows some design elements from the erstwhile Thruxton 1200, but it remains to be seen if the nameplate will return as it has been retired globally. One possibility is that this bike could be called the Speed 400 RS, similar to the larger Speed Twin 1200 RS, which takes the baton forward from the Thruxton.

In typical cafe racer fashion, this bike sports a small bikini fairing at the front along with clip-on handlebars and bar-end mirrors. The rear section is simpler and noticeably different to the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, although it does resemble a more affordable Scrambler test mule seen a few months ago.

Triumph’s single cylinder range starts with the Speed T4, which is currently offered with a discount of Rs 18,000 bringing the effective price to Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.40 lakh, while the Scrambler 400 X commands Rs 2.64 lakh. We expect the 400cc cafe racer to slot in between the Speed and Scrambler 400 upon its launch.
