The Tesla Model Y brought home a 5-star safety rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP crash tests. It scored 91 percent for adult occupant protection (AOP), 93 percent for child occupant protection (COP), 86 percent for vulnerable road users (VRU), and 92 percent for safety assist systems.

2025 Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP tested model details

Euro NCAP tested a left-hand drive (LHD) Model Y in dual-motor AWD spec, which isn’t sold in India. However, this 5-star score also applies to the right-hand drive Model Y Long Range RWD – the electric crossover’s top-spec variant in India. The Model Y Performance AWD sits within the 5-star rating umbrella too.
Model Y safety features
The model tested had 10 airbags, seat belt reminders with pretensioners for all seats, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, autonomous emergency braking, ADAS, an active bonnet and a driver monitoring system.

Frontal offset impact testing.

The Model Y's bodyshell received a stable rating in the frontal offset test, with the driver and co-driver dummy readings reflecting ‘Good’ protection to the knees and femurs. In fact, crash protection for both dummies was rated ‘Good’ for all critical body areas, aside from the ‘Adequate’ score for the driver’s chest. Overall, the Model Y scored 14.2 out of 16 points in the frontal offset impact test.
Side impact test results

In the full-width rigid barrier test, crash protection was mostly rated ‘Good’ – only the chests received an ‘Adequate’ rating – for critical body areas of the driver and rear passenger. The Model Y provided ‘Good’ protection to all critical body areas in the side barrier test, thereby scoring maximum points, whereas the pole impact tests scored the Tesla crossover ‘Good’ for all body areas, save for the ‘Marginal’ chest rating. All told, Euro NCAP awarded 15.3 out of 16 points to the Model Y in lateral impact testing.
Rear impact testing
Lastly, tests on the front and rear seats, along with their head restraints, indicated ‘Good’ protection against whiplash injuries in rear-end collisions. This made for a full 4 out of 4 score in the Model Y’s rear impact tests.

Maximum points in the crash tests.

For both the frontal offset impact and lateral impact crash tests, the Model Y provided ‘Good’ protection to all critical body areas of the 6-year-old and 10-year-old dummies, therefore securing a full 24 out of 24 points.
The front passenger airbag can be disabled to use a rearward-facing child restraint in that seating position, with clear communication of its status to the driver. The Model Y also features a child presence detection system that can detect if a child or infant has been left in the cabin.
2025 Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP vulnerable road users test
86 percent score.
Protection for the head of a pedestrian or a cyclist struck was largely ‘Good’ or ‘Adequate’, though a ‘Poor’ rating was recorded at the stiff windscreen pillars and at the base of the screen. Pelvis and femur protection ranged from ‘Good’ to ‘Marginal’, while protection of the knee and tibia was ‘Good’ or ‘Adequate’ overall.

Finally, the Model Y’s autonomous emergency braking system received ‘Good’ scores in the pedestrian, cyclist and motorcyclist tests.
2025 Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP safety assist systems test
92 percent score.
In response to other vehicles, the Model Y’s autonomous emergency braking racked up ‘Good’ scores, and Euro NCAP pointed out the standard inclusion of front and rear seat belt reminder systems and a driver monitoring system.

The Model Y’s lane support system gently corrects its trajectory if it starts drifting out of the lane, and intervenes in some critical situations too. Meanwhile, the EV’s speed assistance system correctly identifies the local speed limit and allows the driver to set the limiter automatically.
