Bajaj Chetak next gen launch date, expected price, bigger boot

After we exclusively broke the news about the next-gen Bajaj Chetak launching in India this month, the company has now given us an exact date for the same - December 20.

  1. New chassis likely to free up more boot space
  2. Design will see a minor nip and tuck
  3. Pricing won’t change too much

Bajaj Chetak next gen model: what do we know so far?

Compared to its rivals from Ather, TVS and Ola, the Bajaj Chetak has been on the back foot in one very important area - underseat storage space. Compared to the 30+ litres of storage available on all other mainstream EVs, the Bajaj Chetak has a much smaller 22 litre underseat storage area.

The crux of this update will be to address this issue. We have learned that the new Chetak will get a new chassis that repositions the battery pack under the floorboard, thereby liberating more storage space under the seat. With a new battery pack design, we could even see range numbers increase, but not to a great extent.

The rest of the scooter is likely to carry over pretty much unchanged and that’s no bad thing - the metal-bodied Chetak has always been one of the more comfortable and good-looking scooters on the market.

Currently offered in 3 variants with prices ranging between Rs 96,000 - Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), we expect prices to remain in the same ballpark, perhaps with a small increase. With this move to a bigger boot, the Chetak is poised to mount an even fiercer charge upon the TVS iQube in the coming months.
