Maruti Grand Vitara or Honda Elevate

What should I replace my 2018 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza with? I’m looking for a petrol SUV within Rs 15 lakh-16 lakh with a high ground clearance and a manual transmission. I’d like to purchase within the brand. However, I’m open to options.

Mariyam, Mumbai

Ask Autocar Anything: The Maruti Grand Vitara 1.5L petrol will be a good upgrade from your existing car. Despite familiar ergonomics and ground clearance, the Vitara feels far more modern and premium, too, on account of its brown-black interior and some better-quality bits. The mid variants (Zeta and Delta),which fall into your budget, are decently equipped with modern niceties such as a touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, and electric mirrors, to name a few. You’ll like the Grand Vitara’s light controls and smooth engine, which make it a breeze to drive within the city. But do keep this in mind: While the 1.5L petrol is efficient by segment standards, it won’t be as efficient as the Brezza diesel, and highway performance isn’t as effortless either.

Alternatively, you could consider the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which is essentially a rebadged Vitara, or the Honda Elevate, which offers stronger performance, but may not be as fuel-efficient as Maruti’s mid-size SUV.
