8 improvements Volkswagen Taigun facelift gets over its predecessor

The Volkswagen Taigun has received its first major update since its launch in 2021. This mid-lifecycle facelift brings new features and enhancements, aiming to make the midsize SUV a more formidable contender. Here are all the improvements the new Volkswagen Taigun facelift offers.

1. Bigger driver’s display

Driver’s display has increased to 10.25 inches from 8 inches

The Volkswagen Taigun facelift now features a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display instead of an 8-inch screen. Additionally, Volkswagen has integrated turn-by-turn navigation and incorporated four switchable themes into the unit.

2. Panoramic sunroof

Now offers a bigger sunroof, but a single-pane unit is still available

A panoramic sunroof is new to the Volkswagen Taigun, as the pre-facelift model featured only a single-pane unit. However, the latter is still available on the mid-spec Highline Plus and GT Line trims, while the larger panoramic sunroof is reserved for the higher-spec Topline and the Sport and Chrome versions of the GT Plus trim.

3. New automatic transmission option

An 8-speed AT replaces the 6-speed unit on the 1.0L TSI engine

Like the Skoda Kushaq facelift, the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun has replaced the 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission with an 8-speed unit for the 115hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. This new gearbox is expected to deliver smoother shifts during both acceleration and deceleration, much like the Kushaq.

4. Improved claimed fuel efficiency

Volkswagen says the 1.0-litre TSI engine is now more fuel-efficient

The brand claims the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol variants are now more fuel-efficient. The 6-speed manual version is rated at 19.98kpl (up by 0.11kpl), while the new 8-speed automatic delivers 19.54kpl – a boost of 1.39kpl over the previous unit. However, the larger 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, available only with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sees a 0.16kpl dip to 18.85kpl.

5. Front parking sensors

Gets front parking sensors, but not in all trims

The Taigun facelift now comes equipped with front parking sensors in addition to the rear sensors. However, only the rear parking sensors are offered as standard, while the front ones are available from the one-above-the-base Highline trim.

6. Google AI companion

Infotainment system features Google’s cloud-based AI now

The infotainment touchscreen retains its 10.1-inch size but now adds Google’s cloud-based AI. Volkswagen claims this enables a more natural conversation when controlling in-car functions via voice commands. Moreover, the system comes with 15 pre-installed apps now, including YouTube, Spotify and Vivaldi Browser for a more engaging in-car experience.

7. Improved air conditioning

Taigun’s weak-performing AC has been fixed, claims Volkswagen

A major issue with the Volkswagen Taigun was the weak performance of its climate control, with users reporting that it failed to cool effectively during the summer. Volkswagen says this has been addressed by introducing a more powerful air-conditioning system, replacing the earlier fixed-geometry compressor with a variable-geometry unit. However, the real-world improvement will only be clear once we get behind the wheel.

8. New headlight technology

New headlights feature integrated fog lamps and all-weather lighting

With the facelift, Volkswagen has removed the bumper-mounted fog lamps. However, the feature hasn’t been eliminated, as the fog lamps are now integrated into the headlights. These new headlights have multi-angled lighting elements and auto-levelling functions, which are claimed to offer cornering illumination and all-weather functionality. That said, we will be able to verify these claims only once we get our hands on the Volkswagen Taigun facelift.
