The Maserati MC20 Folgore, along with all-electric next-gen versions of the Quattroporte sedan and Levante SUV, may not see the light of day as the parent company, Stellantis, has pulled back Euro 1.5 billion (about Rs 13,640 crore) investments. The decision comes amid slower-than-expected EV demand in the luxury segment and a significant sales decline in the Chinese market. In 2024, Stellantis’ profits dropped by 70 percent, and Maserati’s sales more than halved to 11,300 units from 26,600 units in the previous year.

Stellantis CFO confirms schedule of Maserati’s future models needs to be reviewed

Speaking at the most recent earnings call on February 26, Doug Ostermann, Stellantis’ chief financial officer, confirmed the cancellation of the investment. The company’s press release and financial documents also mention “the cancellation of certain [Maserati] projects prior to launch”, hinting at the abandonment of the long-awaited all-electric MC20 Folgore.

According to our sister publication, Autocar UK, Ostermann also said the schedule for Maserati’s future models needs to be reviewed. This statement also calls into question the future of the all-new Quattroporte EV and Levante EV.

For now, Stellantis has no CEO, as Carlos Tavares resigned abruptly in December last year.
