New BNCAP results are expected soon(outgoing Maruti Swift, pre-facelift Tata Punch used for representation only).

Nearly six months after Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) announced the first results for its crash tests, the road safety organisation is set to reveal a new set of reports quite soon, according to a teaser on its social media accounts.

  1. Next BNCAP announcement this week
  2. Will include several cars, SUVs

A reliable source who spoke with our sister publication, Autocar Professional, said that crash-test results for the second batch of models tested will be out this week and include a number of mainstream car and SUV brands.

Rahul Bharti, Head of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, had said in a recent earnings call that the company had had submitted three models to BNCAP and that the results were expected soon. All these models are estimated to have achieved “top ratings”, the source added.

Why the 6-month gap since BNCAP's last announcement?

According to sources, Maruti Baleno, Grand Vitara and Brezza were delivered in January 2024 to the government authorities for testing. They even passed the tests conducted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the Central Road Transport Institute as early as March 2024.

But after the model code of conduct imposed during general elections came into effect, no new test announcement has been made. However, the government authorities feared that the programme would run out of steam and, therefore, advised the manufacturers to not wait until the code of conduct ends on June 4 to announce the results.
