Considering a 10 percent EMI and a loan tenure of 7 years, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV's EMI starts at Rs 29,926.
I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs. 25 lakh. Currently driving a Tata Nexon Petrol. I am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV (on-road Rs. 24.7 lakh) and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70 kWh (on-road Rs. 26.2 lakh, which may come close to Rs. 25 lakh with festive discounts). I like the Hector Tomahawk EV's minimalist interior and single-screen layout, which feels sufficient for my needs. However, the XEV 9e has much better road presence and looks more premium. I also prefer a clean dashboard over the XEV 9e's triple-screen setup. My priorities are reliability, family comfort, long-term ownership, daily usability, and value for money. I'm based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom/service centre is very close to my home, which is a plus. Which one would you recommend and why?
It seems like you're leaning towards the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. This MG car is a well-priced three-row, feature-loaded EV. Even though we haven't extensively tested the Tomahawk EV yet, given our past experience with MG offerings, they deliver healthy range and are very easy to drive, with light controls. And having the flexibility of a third row of seats is something you don't get with the Mahindra XEV 9E. On the flip side, the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh will not only be more efficient, resulting in better real-world range, but it is also nicer to drive, and certainly has stronger road presence. The festive discounts only improve its value quotient. In summary, the Hector Tomahawk EV is a good product, but the XEV 9e is a future-proof and better-engineered EV.
I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs 25 lakh. I currently drive a Tata Nexon petrol and am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, which costs around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh, which costs around Rs 26.2 lakh on-road and could come closer to Rs 25 lakh with festive discounts. I like the minimalist interior and single-screen layout of the Hector Tomahawk EV. It feels practical and has all the features I need. However, I feel the XEV 9e has better road presence and overall appeal. I generally prefer a clean, simple dashboard over the triple-screen setup in the XEV 9e. My priorities are long-term ownership, reliability and service, family comfort, daily usability and value for money. I am based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom and service centre are very close to my home, which is a significant advantage for convenience. Which one would you recommend and why?
Go for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, as it seems to fit your brief better. While the Tomahawk EV is a new product, MG has a proven history with EVs in India, with models such as the ZS EV, Comet and Windsor, and more recently the M9 and Cyberster. This includes aftersales and service, with its dealerships well prepared to handle EVs, which should give you peace of mind when it comes to long-term ownership. As you have noted, the Tomahawk EV has a practical cabin and a clean interior without a passenger screen. The fact that the MG showroom and service center are very close to your home is also a significant advantage for long-term ownership and convenience. The Mahindra XEV 9e is a very good product with strong road presence, but the triple-screen setup is something you are not keen on, and it adds complexity that you do not need. It's also more powerful, and though it has the longer range on paper, in real-world use the difference may be less. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is also better value for money at around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and it leaves room in your budget for a higher variant or additional accessories.
Is an EV a safe bet as a primary car now as I am considering MG Tomahawk EV. My daily running in city will be around 45 km and will also include quarterly long drive around 600 km. Currently, I am staying in Thane.
With a daily city run of 45 km and a 600 km trip once a quarter, an EV is a perfectly viable primary car today, provided you have access to home charging in Thane. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV looks well suited to your routine. Its 69.2 kWh battery has a claimed range of 517 km, though real-world range will be lower, so plan on at least one charging stop on a 600 km tripThat’s less convenient than filling up with petrol or diesel, but for a trip you make only once a quarter, it may be a reasonable trade-off for the lower running costs and relaxed everyday driving.
Hi, I'm looking for a new second car, mainly for city use and occasional highway trips, maybe once a month. My top priorities are comfort, space, and a good driving experience. My average daily usage would be around 50 km, mainly for household work. I'm considering an EV for its silent and smooth drive. My shortlisted cars are:Tomahawk EV, VF7, XEV 9S, Sierra EV My budget is Rs. 25-30 lakh.
For a second car doing around 50km a day, mainly in the city, an EV makes a lot of sense, particularly if home charging is available. Among your shortlist, the Tomahawk EV is the best match for your priorities of comfort, space and ease of driving. It has a spacious cabin, light steering and excellent all-round visibility, making it surprisingly easy to manage in traffic despite its size. Its ride is also comfortable overall, although the suspension can be heard working over rough roads. The Tomahawk also has enough range for your occasional highway trips. In our first drive, it returned 4.85km/kWh on a fast highway run, which translates to around 336km of real-world range from its 69.2kWh battery. DC charging is supported at up to 90kW.The XEV 9S is the more sophisticated and performance-focused option, but it is also a more expensive proposition. The VF7 is worth considering if driving enjoyment is more important than outright cabin space.
Hello, I am planning to buy an EV that I need for a daily commute 170 km out which 80 km is on expressway. Rest is on state highway and city with heavy vehicle traffic. I am looking for a comfortable 7-seater for long term for at least next 8-10 years. I am inclined towards MG Tomahawk top trim and XEV 9s pack two Above 70kWh. Please advise.
With your 170km daily commute, including 80km on the expressway, the Tomahawk EV is a very strong fit. The 69.2kWh battery gives it a claimed 517km range, while our first drive review found it delivered 4.85km/kWh in a fast highway run, translating to around 336km of real-world range. That gives you a useful buffer for your daily commute. For your requirement of a comfortable 7-seater, the Tomahawk also has a spacious second row with excellent legroom, reclining seats and good third-row access. The third row is usable for adults on shorter journeys, although boot space with all three rows up is limited. The XEV 9S Pack Two Above 70 is the more sophisticated and performance-oriented option, but the Tomahawk's strengths are better aligned with your priorities: comfort, space and easy highway cruising. Our first drive also found it surprisingly easy to drive despite its size, with excellent visibility and light steering. The only concern is that the Tomahawk is a new EV, so there is no established 8–10 year ownership track record yet. An extended warranty would therefore be worth considering.
