Mercedes-Benz GLC expert review
8.0
The Mercedes-Benz GLC presents a refined and modern SUV profile. Its balanced proportions, neat LED headlamps and broad grille give it a poised, premium appearance without unnecessary flash. Clean lines and sculpted body panels reinforce a contemporary aesthetic that appeals to buyers looking for sophistication over extravagance.
Engineering focuses on all-round usability. The monocoque chassis and well-sorted suspension deliver composed dynamics, while ground clearance and SUV stance suit both urban roads and highways. Ride and handling are geared toward comfort and composed progression rather than aggressive sportiness.
8.0
The cabin scores highly for space and comfort. Premium materials and neatly integrated screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system create a refined feel. Front seats are supportive and well trimmed, with good adjustment range for long distances.
Rear space is generous for adults, with ample knee room and headroom helped by the SUV’s upright greenhouse. Visibility is good all around, enhancing the sense of space and reducing blind spots. Boot capacity is practical and accessible, rounding off strong everyday usability.
8.0
Both petrol and diesel engine options are available in the GLC range.
GLC 200 Petrol: This variant uses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing about 255 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It pairs with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and delivers smooth acceleration with easy tractability in city and highway driving. Power delivery is linear and refinement is high, with minimal vibration or noise intrusion under normal use.
GLC 220d Diesel: The diesel option is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing around 200 hp and 440 Nm of torque. Its strength lies in strong mid-range torque, making overtaking and highway cruising effortless. The diesel engine is refined for its class, with normal diesel clatter subdued at typical urban and highway speeds.
Both engines are mated to Mercedes 9-speed automatic gearbox, which shifts smoothly and contributes to the SUV’s overall refinement and relaxed pace on the road.
7.0
Fuel efficiency from both petrol and diesel engines is in line with expectations for a premium midsize SUV returning about 12-18 kmpl. The diesel’s strong torque and gearbox pairing help deliver competitive real-world economy on highway runs, while the petrol is slightly thirstier but remains sensible for everyday use.
Both powertrains balance refinement and efficiency without compromising driving comfort or performance when required.
8.0
Ride quality is a defining strength of the GLC. Suspension compliance absorbs urban potholes and irregular surfaces with ease, and the SUV feels assured and stable at highway speeds. Body control is composed through bends, and steering is balanced between ease for city manoeuvres and confidence at speed.
Handling does not prioritize sharp dynamics, but it remains predictable and confidence-inspiring for daily driving and long distance touring alike.
9.0
The GLC is well equipped with a modern infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, premium upholstery and multi-zone climate control. Connectivity features and driver assistance systems add everyday convenience and safety in both urban and highway conditions.
Safety gear includes multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, stability and traction control, and parking aids that make manoeuvring easier for a vehicle of its size.
8.0
Priced around Rs 77 lakh (ex-showroom), the GLC’s blend of premium design, refined engines, ride comfort and tech features places it competitively within the midsize premium SUV segment, against rivals such as the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. Its quiet cabin, balanced performance and comfort focus make it appealing for buyers seeking a well-rounded SUV suited to everyday use and long-distance cruising.
