Kia Carens Clavis FAQs
In comparison to other MPVs, the Carens is slightly pricier, but is the only one in the segment with diverse powertrains, has the biggest feature list, and is the biggest in terms of dimensions in its class.
The Kia Carens Clavis is a value-for-money car as it's a well-rounded, practical MPV for those who want a family car that is feature-rich.
Questions you may find useful
I am planning to buy a new 7-seater and am confused between the Kia Carens Clavis and Maruti Ertiga, both with naturally aspirated petrol engines. I do not like the new air-conditioning setup in the Ertiga. Could you advise on the Carens Clavis in terms of mileage, reliability, and long-term service costs?
The Kia Carens Clavis is a great 7-seater. It is very spacious, and even tall adults can sit in the last row without any issue. The cabin feels very premium, with high-quality materials used, and even the lower variants offer impressive standard equipment, which makes the entry-level 1.5-litre petrol versions excellent value for money. The 1.5L petrol engine is smooth and refined, and in our tests, it accelerated quickly than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, indicating better drivability too. This engine is shared with the Carens, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Verna, and it has been quite reliable so far. Service and maintenance costs are also on par with, or even lower than, its rivals.
I’m planning to buy either the Kia Carens Clavis or the Hyundai Alcazar. Please advise which one would be better.
Assuming you’re considering these two models because they offer a third row of seats, the Kia Carens Clavis would be the better choice. This Kia car offers easier access to the third row thanks to its electric one-touch tumble function, and space and comfort at the back are superior. Carens Clavis and Hyundai Alcazar share their turbo-petrol and diesel engines, so there isn’t much difference in performance.
Hi. I am looking for an SUV in the Rs 15-18 lakh range. I am from Bangalore, and my driving is mainly in the city. At present, I drive a Volkswagen Vento. We are six members in the family.
With a budget of Rs 15-18 lakh, city-focused running in Bangalore, and a family of six, the Kia Carens Clavis or the Maruti XL6 would be good options. Both offer comfy seating for 6, and between the two, the Kia car mentioned above feels a bit more upmarket. They are both not your traditional SUV's but come with some strong styling cues to minimize the MPV stance. If you must have an SUV body style, then opt for the Hyundai Alcazar, which also offers seating for 6, though the third row is best for kids.
I am from Kerala and looking to buy a 7-seater car to replace my old Hyundai Eon. My options are the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6, and Kia Carens Clavis. The Clavis offers many options, including naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines. Which car would be the most suitable for travelling with seven people? My maximum budget is Rs 16 lakh. Also, from a mileage point-of-view, which is better: turbo or naturally aspirated with a manual transmission?
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It is the most sensible and reliable choice for your requirement. The Ertiga is a proven 7-seater with a comfortable third row, low running costs and Maruti's strong service network, which is important coming from a Hyundai Eon.The Maruti XL6 is essentially the same car with a more premium interior and captain seats in the middle row, but that reduces seating capacity to six, which does not suit your need for seven people. The Kia Carens Clavis is a good alternative with a more premium feel, but is positioned slightly higher, and on your budget of Rs 16 lakh, you will only get a low-spec model with fewer features. Between turbo and naturally aspirated petrol engines, the naturally aspirated engine is generally more fuel-efficient in real-world conditions, especially with a manual transmission. The Maruti Ertiga also fits comfortably within your Rs 16 lakh budget, letting you get the fully-loaded variant with more features. Overall, the Ertiga is the most practical and hassle-free 7-seater for family use.
I am confused between the Innova Crysta VX, Innova HyCross VX, and Kia Carens Clavis Diesel AT. The car will mainly be used by my aged parents, replacing our 2011 Ritz diesel. It will be driven 99% of the time by our regular driver, and occasionally by me. It will mostly be used as a 5-seater, with occasional use as a 7-seater.
Go for the Toyota Innova HyCross VX. Your usage is mostly chauffeur-driven with elderly parents, and the car is primarily a 5-seater with occasional 7-seater use. The Toyota HyCross is the best fit here because it offers a much more comfortable and refined experience than the Crysta, especially for rear-seat passengers. The hybrid powertrain is smooth, quiet and efficient, which makes a big difference in daily city driving, and the automatic gearbox is seamless. The Crysta VX is still a great car, but it is more utilitarian and not as refined or comfortable as the HyCross. The Kia Carens Clavis Diesel AT is a great value alternative and offers a very comfortable and practical interior. If it is going to be used primarily in the city, diesel won't be the right choice, though. Overall, the HyCross VX strikes the right balance between comfort, efficiency and Toyota's proven reliability, making it the best choice for your requirements.
