Xiaomi's first car, the all-electric SU7 sedan, has been revealed in Chinese government filings. This sedan will rival the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3 when it goes on sale in China in the first half of 2024.

  1. SU7 EV sedan is Xiaomi’s first four-wheeler
  2. Two powertrain options to be offered
  3. Xiaomi SUV coming in 2025

Xiaomi SU7 powertrain and specifications

The Xiaomi SU7 measures 4,997mm in length, 1,963mm in width, 1,440mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000mm. It weighs between 1,980-2,205kg, depending on the specification picked.

Xiaomi will offer two powertrains – a rear-wheel-drive version with 299hp on tap and a top speed of 210kph, and a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive version with 673hp and a top speed of 265kph. Two battery packs will be offered with the SU7 – a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD on entry-level cars and a larger CATL pack as a more expensive option. However, battery capacities and range are yet to be confirmed.

Xiaomi SU7 design and interior

The front end of the Xiaomi SU7 seems to take inspiration from the latest McLarens: those headlights look like slimmer versions of the 750S, and the way the bonnet tapers is also familiar. At the rear, the EV sedan gets slim wraparound tail-lights with a light bar connecting the two. Higher-spec cars can be had with an active rear wing and Lidar technology. The SU7 will also be offered with a choice of 19-inch and 20-inch wheels, compatible with 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20 tyres.

The SU7’s interior is expected to have two themes to choose from, and it comes with a large, horizontally oriented central touchscreen infotainment system.

Xiaomi future cars

Xiaomi’s first car will be built under contract by long-established manufacturer BAIC. There are four more models in the pipeline, including an SUV planned for launch in 2025. Xiaomi had invested over Rs 3,700 crore in its EV division, Xiaomi Automobile, in 2022.
