Toyota has taken the wraps off its facelifted Land Cruiser Prado (sold as the Land Cruiser in European markets) at the ongoing Frankfurt motor show. Sold in over 190 countries around the world, the SUV continues to be based on the previous model’s platform but gets a number of design changes on the inside and outside.

The exterior changes to the Prado include a new hood, fenders, grille, headlamps, tail-lights, wheels and front bumper. The tweaked design is also meant to help better the line-of-sight for the large SUV and improve engine cooling. As a result of these changes, the Land Cruiser Prado is now longer than the previous model.

The cabin on the refreshed model now comes with a new dashboard, instruments and centre console, which gets a new 8.0-inch infotainment screen mounted low to improve outward visibility.

Buyers in Europe will have the option of a three- and a five-door model, 10 exterior colours, three interior colours and a total of three engines. The 2.8-litre, four-pot, diesel engine produces 177hp and 450Nm of torque and is mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The smaller 2.7-litre petrol mill is capable of producing 161hp and 245Nm of peak torque while the range-topping 4.0-litre engine makes 249hp and 380Nm of twisting force. The former is mated to a five-speed manual while the latter gets a six-speed automatic transmission.

The outgoing Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, launched in 2013 in India, retails at Rs 84.71 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and comes with a 3.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that develops 173hp and 410Nm of peak torque. The engine comes paired to a five-speed automatic that sends power to all-four-wheels.

There is no word from Toyota about bringing the new Land Cruiser Prado to India.
