Toyota has confirmed its plans of introducing an electric Hilux pickup truck in Thailand by the end of next year. The announcement comes just a few days after Isuzu revealed the D-Max EV (D-MAX BEV) at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2024, and announced that it would manufacture the electric pickup truck in Thailand by 2025.

Toyota Motor Thailand's president Noriaki Yamashita revealed that the Hilux EV could be ready by the end of next year, however, he didn't specify if it will be produced in the country itself or imported. Yamashita also said that Toyota, the market leader in Thailand, will deliver about a dozen Hilux EV pickup trucks to the tourist beach town of Pattaya for trials as public transportation next month.
The Hilux EV was first publicly seen in the form of the Hilux Revo BEV concept back in December 2022. At the time, the concept was stated to be one year away from entering production. Toyota is yet to reveal technical specifications of the upcoming Hilux EV like the battery capacity, range and power.

Nonetheless, we expect the Toyota Hilux EV to offer a standard 4WD system with a dual-battery setup – one on each axle. For reference, the Isuzu D-Max EV has a 66.9kWh battery pack and a combined power and torque output of 177hp and 325Nm, respectively. The Isuzu electric pickup truck has a maximum payload capacity of 1,000kg and a towing capacity of 3,500kg.
Apart from the Hilux, Toyota had also revealed an Innova Crysta EV concept in Indonesia, which hasn’t gone into production yet.
