Toyota India is slated to launch the ninth-gen Hilux in India on July 28, 2026. This generational update to the Hilux will bring in a heavily revised exterior and interior design to the pickup truck. We had previously confirmed the arrival of the ninth-gen Hilux from our dealer sources.

  1. Ninth-gen Hilux to use the same IMV body-on-frame platform as its predecessor
  2. To have a refreshed look on the outside and inside
  3. Likely to continue with the 2.8-litre diesel engine as the current generation

Ninth-gen Toyota Hilux: What to expect?

Toyota isn't expected to make any crucial changes to the India-spec Hilux's design. Up front, the ninth-gen Hilux is likely to have a revised fascia, replacing the large hexagonal grille with a body-coloured honeycomb pattern, slim LED headlamps, a rugged bumper and a skid plate. In profile, it looks similar to the predecessor, with a smooth finish for the doors and squared-off wheel arches, but it gets a different set of alloy wheels. Expect revisions to the bumper and LED tail-lamps at the back. The Toyota badge could be replaced by 'Toyota' lettering.

The new Hilux will get a more modern-looking interior, replete with dual 12.3-inch displays. The dashboard gets a fresh look with a new steering wheel and there's also a revised centre console. Luckily, Toyota has retained physical buttons and is expected to equip the new Hilux with a 360-degree camera, ADAS, powered and ventilated front seats and more features.

As for powertrains, the new Hilux is likely to continue with the current version's 204hp, 500Nm 2.8-litre diesel. Power is sent to all four wheels by either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. It could also bring a 48V mild-hybrid system to this engine, which currently does duty on the Fortuner Neo Drive variant. At its global reveal, Toyota also introduced the first electric iteration of the Hilux. The Hilux EV gets a 59.2kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor setup. However, it isn't confirmed whether Toyota would introduce the Hilux EV here as well. Expect the ninth-gen Hilux to be pricier than the eighth-gen Hilux, which currently retails at Rs 28.52 lakh to Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom).
