We reported in 2023 that Audi was developing a rugged 4x4 SUV to take on the likes of the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender, and CEO Gernot Dollner has now hinted that its unveiling is on the horizon. When asked by Autocar UK if the 4x4 was still a live project, Dollner said, “Stay tuned”, without revealing an exact debut timeline. The new flagship SUV will also introduce a radical new design and technology features, which will trickle down to more stablemates.

New Audi 4x4 SUV details so far
May feature Audi’s new simplistic design language
Lichte left Audi soon after and was replaced by Massimo Frascella, who was key in shaping the Defender at Jaguar Land Rover from 2011 to 2024. This had led to the speculation that Audi may launch a similar SUV. The upcoming SUV could feature the brand’s new simplistic design philosophy, which was recently seen with the new Concept C revealed at the 2025 Munich motor show.
