MG Motor India will officially unveil its first model for the market, the Hector, on May 15, 2019. The company had already started mass-production of the SUV last month at its Halol plant, as was reported by us earlier.

According to an official announcement, MG Motor India will start its India innings with 65 showrooms spread across 50 cities. The new Hector was recently showcased to the dealer fraternity, and the company has also announced that MG dealers will begin accepting pre-bookings for the SUV next month onwards. According to sources, the car is expected to a see a market launch and price announcement sometime in mid-June 2019. Pricing for the Hector is expected to be in the range of Rs 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom).

The MG Hector SUV will come with a 143hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and an FCA-sourced, 2.0-litre diesel mill. A 6-speed manual will be available as standard on both engines, with the turbo-petrol also getting the option of a 6-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Also on offer will be a 48V mild-hybrid variant that is claimed to be 12 percent more fuel efficient than the petrol variant.

The Hector will initially be sold in a five-seat configuration. It comes with a split-headlight design, with LED DRLs on top and LED headlights positioned lower on the front bumper, and gets a large chrome-mesh front grille, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and faux front and rear skid plates as well.

The top-spec variant of the MG Hector will come with features like a 360-degree camera, a Harman Infinity audio system, six-way power adjustable driver’s seat, push-button start, keyless entry, cruise control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

MG Motor India has thus far invested Rs 2,200 crore in its Halol manufacturing plant and has set up a new assembly line, press shop, body shop, parts distribution centre, testing track and a training facility. The plant currently has a production capacity of 80,000 units per year.
