Mercedes recalls C63 S AMG, CLE models over possible ADAS defect

Mercedes has issued a recall for the CLE Cabriolet, CLE 53 AMG, and C63 S AMG E-Performance models over a potential failure of its Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) feature. The recall affects a total of 149 units, including CLE Cabriolets manufactured between September 2, 2024, and March 25, 2025, CLE 53 AMG cars produced from December 12, 2024, to March 18, 2025, and C63 S AMG E-Performance sedans made from October 23, 2024, to November 23, 2024.

  1. 149 units of the C63 S AMG, CLE Cabriolet and CLE 53 AMG have been affected
  2. Recall issued for models manufactured between 2024 and 2025

What’s the issue with the Emergency Stop Assist feature?

ESA, which helps prevent accidents if a driver’s hands aren’t on the steering wheel, might not work

The ESA helps monitor driver attentiveness and provides prompts to the driver if they have their hands off the steering wheel for a considerable amount of time. If the prompts are ignored, ESA brings the vehicle to a halt gradually. This ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) feature may not work as intended in the aforementioned models, and hence, the brand has issued a recall.

How is Mercedes working on rectifying this issue?

It is expected that owners of the affected models will be contacted by Mercedes-Benz. Customers will be directed to visit authorised service centres, where the concerned part will be either fixed or replaced free of cost. In the meantime, owners can also contact an official Mercedes dealership for more information.
