Mahindra has trademarked the 'Scorpio X' name, which could be seen on an upcoming model. The brand had earlier said that the Scorpio line-up will expand in the future with more models. Mahindra did showcase the Global Pik Up concept last year, which could get the Scorpio X name upon launch.

  1. Scorpio X pickup will go on sale next year
  2. Will get petrol and diesel engine options
  3. Expected to be loaded with tech and proper off-road gear

Mahindra Scorpio X coming in 2025

The Scorpio pickup concept was shown in South Africa last year. Internally called Z121, the model will be a global offering and will be sold in markets like South Africa, Australia and the Middle East. This new pickup, likely to be called the Scorpio X, will be based on the “next-generation ladder frame platform” that has been designed to score well in Global NCAP and Euro NCAP crash tests.

While the concept shown last year had quite a few design elements fit for a concept, the design on the production version is likely to be toned down. It will still feature a rugged design with ample cladding and ground clearance for rough terrain usage. It will share some bits with the Scorpio N for better economies of scale. These may include the front fascia, the front doors, and interior bits like the dashboard, steering wheel, instrumentation and seats.

The production version will be packed with features and tech that would include Level 2 Autonomous Driving, semi-automatic parking and 5G-based connectivity features. And as is the hot favourite in India, this pickup will have a sunroof. Also on offer will be Trailer Sway Mitigation, an ESP feature that detects when a towed trailer begins to sway and uses ESP interventions of brake and throttle control to counteract it.

Mahindra Scorpio X engine, gearbox details

The new Scorpio X pickup will be powered by a Gen-II all-aluminium mHawk diesel engine, which will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic. It will come with 4WD and shift-on-the-fly tech along with four drive modes on offer: Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand. It will also get a petrol engine option depending on the market.

Upcoming Mahindra SUVs for India

While the Scorpio X could go on sale abroad first, for India, Mahindra will introduce the XUV300 facelift, the XUV300 EV and the Thar 5-door in India this year.
