Mahindra has been testing the SsangYong Tivoli-based SUV for the Indian market, codename S201 since a long time now. We reported earlier that this new SUV will come in two bodystyles – a smaller sub-four-meter “Compact” version that will take on the Vitara Brezza and a slightly larger model that will rival the Creta. While Mahindra has been testing the Creta-rivalling variant of the S201 since quite some time, a new set of spy shots have surfaced confirming the “smaller” Brezza-rivalling version as well.

As seen from the pictures, the “compact” S201 is shorter than the standard version. Mahindra seems to have shaved off around 200mm in order to keep the SUV under four meter length, mainly from the aft of the rear wheel. In order to keep costs in check, the compact S201 will share most of its body panels including the doors with its larger sibling. However, as seen from the images the rear styling could be unique in terms of tailgate design, horizontally placed taillamps and different design for the rear bumper.  The SUV will share the chunkier tyres and higher ground clearance too.

Under the hood, expect the compact S201 to share the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor along with a 1.5-litre diesel engine.  Mahindra is expected to bring in the S201 range to the Indian market in the latter part of 2018.
