New Hyundai compact EV details
Hyundai compact EV for India expected to be based on the Inster

As we had reported, Hyundai India was given a go-ahead by its Korean parent to challenge the Tata Punch EV earlier this year. Codenamed HE1i, this new sub-4-metre electric SUV will be underpinned by the company’s global and affordable E-GMP (K) platform, also used by the Hyundai Inster on sale abroad. This new model will be produced at the company’s Sriperumbudur factory in Tamil Nadu with localised batteries from Exide.
Will come with two battery pack options – Standard Range and Long Range

Hyundai India has also confirmed that the new EV will be available with two battery options – Standard Range and Long Range; the Euro-spec Inster is available in those markets with 42kWh (Standard Range) and 49kWh (Long Range) options, with respective WLTP ranges of 300km and 355km. The Inster Standard Range has a 97hp, 147Nm motor, while the Long Range packs a 115hp, 147Nm motor.
Level 2 ADAS suite confirmed

Other confirmed details about the new Hyundai compact EV include a Level 2 ADAS suite and an infotainment system that is capable of OTA (over-the-air) updates. In-car connectivity tech and other creature comforts typical of well-specced Hyundai cars are also expected. For reference, the Hyundai Inster features dual 10.25-inch displays for the instrument panel and touchscreen infotainment, an ADAS suite, auto climate control and a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring.
