Following some confusion regarding Lamborghini’s EV plans, brand chief Stephan Winkelmann told Autocar UK that a fully electric model will not arrive after 2030. This is following the CEO’s earlier comment on negligible demand for luxury high-performance electric cars from prospective customers, resulting in the Italian marque postponing its first-ever EV launch past 2030. For context, Lamborghini had previously planned to introduce the Lanzador EV before the end of this decade.

Why is Lamborghini’s EV delayed?
Weak customer demand key to Italian brand’s decision
During a conversation with Autocar UK, Winkelmann clarified that his earlier remarks on steep investment on high-performance electric cars being an "expensive hobby" were “a bit taken out of context". "I didn’t say it this way. I just want to underline this.” However, the fact of the matter is that current market realities do not appear encouraging for niche EVs, with several luxury automakers – including Porsche and Rolls-Royce – pushing back plans on adopting fleet-wide electrification by entirely omitting the internal combustion engine. "We discovered that the rejection rate of full-electric cars is increasing, and this is something which is going to affect the sales of a full-electric car from Lamborghini,” Winkelmann told Autocar UK.
Despite delivering 10,747 units to customers worldwide, a major restructuring in the brand’s EV plans means that Lamborghini had to take a hit in profit last year. This is because, even though it raked in 3.2 billion euros in overall revenue for the whole of 2025, profit fell by 8.3 percent.

Lamborghini has also taken note of this trend and therefore delayed the launch of its first-ever electric model to sometime past 2030, allowing the marque to fine-tune its EV plans for prospective buyers. The Italian automaker’s primary focus now is on bringing the Lanzador nameplate to market as a two-door plug-in hybrid with seating for up to four occupants. It will be placed below the Urus, and may share its underpinnings and its twin-turbo V8 engine with the brand’s flagship SUV , Autocar UK stated.
Winkelmann explained how the sound of an internal combustion engine has been paramount to Lamborghini ownership. The brand chief acknowledged the challenges behind recreating a similar experience in an electric car. However, it is unclear at the moment how Lamborghini will go about achieving this, especially when it comes to integrating the aural experience otherwise provided by various mechanical components that make up a sporty combustion-engine car. One of the ways of elevating the driving experience is by piping exhaust notes and even replicating gear shifts – something that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N does. Furthermore, Lamborghini has also confirmed plans to launch four new cars in 2026.
