Lamborghini is set to unveil the Urus, claimed to be the fastest SUV yet, at its newly expanded factory in Sant'Agate Bolognese, Italy, later today (December 4, 2017). Lamborghini’s first SUV since the LM002 (1986-1993), the Urus is touted to become its best-selling model after it goes on sale globally next year, and is expected to nearly double its overall volumes. Let us look at what we know so far about Lambo's hotly anticipated ‘Super SUV’.

True to concept
The Italian performance carmaker has shown some of the styling details and released some technical information of the production-spec machine in a series of videos and images. However, the internet got a sneak peek at the Urus last month as an image of the much-awaited SUV was accidentally leaked in one of the official video teasers (presumably due to human error) released by the company. The front of the vehicle indicates a design closely resembling the concept revealed back in 2012. The company says the Urus design will be "pure Lamborghini" and that the look has evolved considerably since the concept revealed in 2015.
More recently, official videos revealed Urus' thin tail-light strip, sporting a design that looks similar to that of the Asterion – Lamborghini's shelved hybrid supercar.

World's fastest SUV
The Urus range will feature the brand's first plug-in hybrid powertrain putting out around 650hp and almost 850Nm of torque and will also be the only hybrid in Lamborghini’s line-up (until a plug-in hybrid Huracán arrives in 2022). The Urus will also get a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, V8 variant. The company has chosen not to use a naturally aspirated powertrain for its SUV because it believes that SUVs need to have huge torque.

High-tech DNA
Lamborghini had recently released multiple videos to demonstrate the Urus' dynamic abilities. The footage revealed that the Urus features 48V-powered active anti-roll suspension technology. But the tech doesn't end there. The ‘Super SUV’ is set to get a four-wheel steering system like the Aventador S and a traction-control system with six settings – Strada (road), Sport, Corsa (track), Sabbia (sand), Terra (dirt), and Neve (snow).

It’s coming to India in 2018
Lamborghini is quick to launch its cars in India after their global debuts and the Urus will be no different. Expect the Urus to go on sale in our country in the latter part of 2018. The Lambo SUV will come with a heavy-weight price tag. Expect it to cost in the region of Rs 5 crore (estimated, ex-showroom).
