Hyundai is preparing to showcase its latest EV at the upcoming Munich motor show in September. Likely to be badged the Hyundai Ioniq 2, the small EV will rival the Renault 4, upcoming Kia EV2 and Skoda Epiq in international markets. The Ioniq 2 is expected to be a Hyundai Bayon-sized model.

  2. Interior to be more tech-heavy
  3. Battery pack and powertrain could be shared with Kia EV3

Spy shots show a raised hatchback with a raked roofline.

The new Hyundai EV has been spied testing abroad, and pictures confirm that the Ioniq 2 is about the same size as the India-bound Bayon. The images also show that the hatchback is slightly raised and has a raked roofline. In addition, the front end is expected to share design cues with the Hyundai Ioniq 6, from the slim LED headlights to the aggressive, protruding nose and front bumper.

Hyundai Ioniq 2 interior and features

Expected to get combined instrument and infotainment display.

The interior of the Ioniq 2 is expected to have a more tech-focused cabin, with what Hyundai calls a “step change” in usability for its models compared to the current Ioniq line-up. The new EV is likely to get a combined instrument and infotainment display setup, which stretches about half the width of the dashboard.

Hyundai Ioniq 2 battery, range and powertrain

It shares the scalable E-GMP platform with Hyundai and Kia EVs.

Like the EV2, the Ioniq 2 utilises the scalable E-GMP platform, which is used by nearly every Hyundai, Kia and Genesis EV. The small Hyundai EV is likely to be powered by the same battery and motors as the larger Kia EV3, which gets 58.3kWh and 81.4kWh battery options with WLTP range figures of 430km and 600km, respectively. Both battery options power a 204hp, 283Nm front-axle-mounted motor.

The Ioniq 2 will be positioned between the Inster compact EV and the Kona Electric in Hyundai’s international line-up. For markets abroad, prices are expected to be announced in the third quarter of 2026. However, an India launch for the Ioniq 2 has yet to be confirmed. It should be noted that the Inster EV and Bayon are India-bound; both new models are expected to launch next year.
