Hyundai India has introduced a Usage-Based Insurance (UBI) programme for eligible customers with Bluelink-connected cars, allowing them to potentially receive additional insurance benefits based on their driving behaviour. The UBI programme will use vehicle data gathered by Bluelink to generate a personalised driving score, which participating insurers can consider when assessing customers’ insurance policies at renewal.
This initiative will be available across Hyundai’s model portfolio, subject to eligibility criteria and the timing of insurance renewals. Hyundai India Insurance Broking (HIIB) will act as an intermediary between Hyundai and participating insurers, facilitating the sharing of driving scores with customers’ consent. The first phase of the UBI programme will involve Cholamandalam MS General Insurance, Go Digit General Insurance and ICICI Lombard General Insurance.
How Hyundai’s usage-based insurance programme works

The UBI score will be calculated using driving behaviour recorded over the previous three months through Bluelink. Customers whose insurance policies are due for renewal within the next 90 days will be able to view their scores and check their eligibility for potential benefits. The scorecard will assess several driving parameters, including rapid acceleration, rapid deceleration, sudden braking, speed control and idling behaviour. Since the data is collected directly from the vehicle, customers will not need to install additional devices or hardware.
Customers can access their scores and track their eligibility via the Bluelink app. They will also have the option to share their scores with participating insurers through the app, subject to their consent. Insurers will then use the scores as an input for underwriting and determining potential benefits.
A UBI score of 70 or above may make a customer eligible for additional insurance benefits at renewal. However, the final benefits will depend on the participating insurer’s underwriting policy and applicable terms and conditions. Customers with scores below this threshold can use personalised driving tips to improve their driving behaviour and potentially qualify for benefits in the future.
