2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift launched at Rs 9.97 lakh

Mahindra has launched the refreshed Scorpio with prices starting at Rs 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The facelifted SUV, that comes in seven-, eight- and nine-seater configurations, gets a few cosmetic changes on the outside and inside, and a more powerful engine.

The engine is available only on the higher-spec S7 and S11 trims. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit now develops 140hp (up by 20hp) at 3,750rpm and 320Nm (an increase of 40Nm) of peak torque at 1,500-2,800rpm. This engine is mated to a new six-speed manual transmission. Four-wheel drive is also available as an option.

The base S3 variant gets a 2,523cc diesel motor that makes 75hp and 200Nm of torque, while the mid-spec S5 and S7 variants come with a 120hp/280Nm version of the 2.2-litre mHawk engine. Both motors are mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

All the engines also come with Micro Hybrid, which is Mahindra's version of engine start-stop technology.

Exterior changes include a new grille design with seven slats, a tweaked front bumper, new projector headlamps, new round fog lamps, turn indicators on the wing mirrors and new 17-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the updated Scorpio gets a new bumper, a new red theme for the LED tail-lamps, a new wiper, and a redesigned tailgate.

On the inside, the higher-spec variants now sport new faux leather upholstery; the steering wheel and gear lever are also wrapped in the same. The touchscreen infotainment system that comes with navigation doubles as a rear parking camera, and there are cubbies near the gear lever for your water bottle and mobile phone.

In terms of tech, the top-spec Scorpio gets cruise control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps and wipers, automatic climate control and Mahindra’s Blue Sense app that allows control of the infotainment system.

Safety features on the facelifted SUV are carried forward from before and include dual-front airbags, ABS, a speed alert, an auto door lock function and a digital engine immobiliser.
