Volkswagen India has dropped the first teaser for the Taigun facelift days before its launch on April 9, suggesting subtle exterior tweaks. Taigun’s mid-lifecycle update is also expected to introduce a new automatic gearbox option, like its Skoda Kushaq badge-engineered twin, along with more features.

Volkswagen Taigun facelift teaser explained
The 7-second teaser reveals only the side profile of the car, with most details hidden. Even so, a few changes are noticeable. There is a new front bumper with a revised grille section, as well as updated LED headlights and tail-lamps – details that have already been seen in recent Taigun facelift spy shots. Previous sightings also showed a full-width LED light bar across the grille with an illuminated VW roundel at the centre.
Volkswagen Taigun facelift powertrains
Speaking of powertrains, the 115hp 1-litre turbo-petrol engine is likely to continue with a 6-speed manual, while the 6-speed automatic option could make way for a new 8-speed unit. The 150hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is expected to carry on with the choice of 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearboxes; the 6MT is currently not offered on the Kushaq 1.5 TSI range.
Skoda also claims improved mileage across all Kushaq powertrains with the facelift, and the same could be expected of the new Taigun. For reference, the current Taigun’s claimed fuel efficiency ranges from 18.15kpl to 19.87kpl.
Volkswagen Taigun facelift new features
While Volkswagen has not yet revealed the Taigun facelift’s interior, more details are likely to be shared in the run-up to its launch next week. It remains to be seen whether Volkswagen will follow an approach similar to the one for the Kushaq facelift. If it does, higher-spec Taigun variants could come with a panoramic sunroof and a massaging function for the rear seats, while features such as a single-pane sunroof and rear washer and wiper could be offered right from the entry-level variant.
Updates to the driver’s display and infotainment system are also likely, with the latter potentially getting AI integration. Volkswagen may also address feedback around the AC’s cooling performance by switching from a cheaper fixed-geometry compressor to a variable-geometry unit – a measure Skoda implemented with its midsize SUV.
Volkswagen Taigun facelift rivals
In addition to Tata Sierra and Renault Duster, the latest entrants to the midsize SUV space, the 2026 Taigun will be up against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder and Maruti’s Grand Vitara and Victoris. Given the updates, a slight price increase is also likely; for reference, the current Taigun is priced between Rs 10.58 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh, ex-showroom.
