- New Model Y variant has a 150mm longer wheelbase
- All-wheel drive setup allows for a quicker 0-100kph in 5.0 seconds
- Gets three-rows of seating with a 6-seat layout
Tesla Model Y technical specifications
Tesla does not categorically list out specs such as battery size, power and torque figures, but the Model Y L in right-hand drive configuration is also available in Australia, and going by the Australian-spec model, it is likely to be powered by an 85kWh battery (net capacity). Power and torque figures are estimated to be 456hp and 590Nm, respectively, making it the most powerful version of the Model Y in India.
Importantly, this is the only Model Y variant that gets an all-wheel drive configuration here, and Tesla claims a 0-100kph time of 5.0 seconds flat. At 681km, this is also the highest-range Model Y variant available in India. For reference, the standard rear-wheel drive model has a claimed range of 500km and 661km in regular and long-range guises, respectively.
Tesla also claims the Model Y L can add up to 288 km of range in 15 minutes of fast charging using its Supercharger network.
Tesla Model Y dimensions
The biggest talking point about this new variant is its wheelbase which, at 3,040mm, is 150mm longer than the standard version. Overall length has gone up by 179mm, and is now rated at 4,969mm. The width remains unchanged at 1,982mm, while the height has gone up by 44mm and now stands at 1668mm. At 169mm, the Model Y L also has a 2mm higher ground clearance than the regular model. The wheel size, however, remains unchanged at 19-inches, although it does get a different design here on the L version.
Tesla Model Y exterior design
Apart from the aforementioned wheel design, it’s hard to visually tell the new L variant apart from the regular version. However, when viewed in profile, the longer rear doors and a slightly reworked roofline with a larger rear quarter glass distinguish the L from the regular version. At the back, the long wheelbase variant also gets a more pronounced boot lid spoiler. Tesla’s signature full-width front and rear LED lighting setup has been carried forward unchanged here.
As standard, the Model Y L is only available in a Stealth Grey Shade. There are 5 more colours available, namely Pearl White, Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, Ultra Red and Cosmic Silver, but are chargeable.
Tesla Model Y interior and features
The interior is largely unchanged from the regular Model Y, continuing with the same minimalist dashboard and a large central touchscreen which is where almost all functions are operated from. Notably, on both the L and standard versions, the screen measures 16.0-inches, which is up from the 15.4-inch screen that the standard version was launched with last year. Tesla seems to have silently updated the standard version with the newer screen, too. It also comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the middle-row passengers.
Compared to the 5-seater version, the Model Y L additionally gets an improved sound system with a sub-woofer and the front seats also get a thigh extension. The second-row captain seats also get electronically operated armrests, one-touch folding, ventilation, and heating functions, while the third-row gets powered recline, one-touch folding dedicated AC vents.
Other features like powered, heated and ventilated driver and front passenger seats, ambient lighting, powered front and rear AC vents, eight exterior cameras, panoramic glass roof, connected car tech, heated steering and windshield and a dashcam have been carried over.
