MG's first full-electric model, the eZS EV, has made its UK public debut at the 2019 London motor show, where it is on display for interested punters to examine until May 19. MG bosses claim the eZS SUV has already had more than 800 'expressions of interest' from buyers – the most the brand has ever had in the UK.

A rival to the Kia Soul EV in that market, the MG eZS was first revealed at the Guangzhou motor show in China last year, and will be sold alongside the existing MG ZS petrol versions.

While specifications have yet to be confirmed, the UK-bound ZS EV is expected to use the same front-mounted 150hp electric motor as the model sold in China.

The car's lithium-ion battery will reportedly be good for a 431km range on the old NEDC test cycle, and MG says it can achieve an 80 percent charge in as little as 30min. As a guide, the WLTP range of the Nissan Leaf is 28.5 percent lower than its NEDC range; the same reduction would put the ZS EV at 309km.

Last year, the British brand had announced that after launching the MG Hector in India, it would bring an all-electric SUV as its second offering. Just last month, MG Motor India confirmed that the eZS will arrive by December 2019, and the first spy shots of a camouflaged eZS test mule have surfaced. We’ve exclusively driven a prototype of the SUV to understand what the upcoming eZS will be like on the road. The MG eZS is likely to be followed by a seven-seat version of the Hector, which will launch in early 2020.
