I am planning to buy a new 160cc bike. My options are the Apache RTR 160 4V TFT, Pulsar N160, and Xtreme 160 4V. Most of my riding will be in the city at speeds of 60-70 kmph, with occasional long rides. My priorities are mileage, looks, low maintenance, good customer service, resale value, fewer complaints, comfort, performance, and easy availability of spare parts. Please suggest one good option.

All three options you have shortlisted are great in their own ways, and we'd advise you to choose between the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and the Apache RTR 160 4V TFT from our previous experience with them. If you are taller than 5'9, then the TVS bike will feel a little cramped, so we'd recommend the Bajaj if you're above that threshold. You should also take a look at the Honda Unicorn / SP160 as these bikes also meet your requirements, although they will have slightly lower performance compared to the aforementioned TVS and Bajaj bikes.Take a test ride of all the bikes you're considering before you go ahead with your purchase.

I used to own a Honda Unicorn 150, eight years ago. Since then, I have only ridden scooters in the city and haven't ridden a motorcycle in 8 years. I am looking for a bike for 50 km of daily commute with a mix of city traffic and highway. I am looking for a smooth and reasonably powerful bike that is capable of comfortably cruising at 80-90 kph on highways. I needs a bike that offers a relaxed, comfortable riding posture and easy handling for city traffic. I have a maximum budget of Rs. 2 lakh. Which motorcycle would be the best fit for my transition back to riding? Should I shortlist SP160, Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid, and NX200?

Since you've had a Unicorn in the past, the Honda SP160 will offer a smooth transition back to motorcycling after a long break. Do bear in mind that all the bikes you've shortlisted will feel a little strained at 80-90kph owing to their small displacement and relatively modest outputs. You should also look at the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N160 models because they marry everyday usability with that added step of performance that your humdrum commuters don't offer. Take test rides of these bikes to see which one works best for you.

Hello, I'm considering buying a bike for my daily commute to work. My office is around 25 km away from my house, and the route is a mix of highway and city roads, with occasional patches of rough, pothole-ridden roads. I do not have much experience with geared bikes, as I have been riding gearless scooters for most of my life. My expectation from the bike is that it should offer better safety and ride comfort than the Suzuki Access I currently use. Other factors that matter to me are reliability and a strong after-sales service network. Would an ADV bike be a good consideration, or should I stick to a regular commuter due to my lack of riding experience?

Since this is your first motorcycle, sticking to a commuter machine will help you ease into the transition of riding a geared bike coming from a CVT scooter. We'd recommend options like the Honda Unicorn / SP160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N160 to you, which will offer a big step up in comfort and performance from your Access, with little to no trade-off in efficiency. These are all lightweight, simple, easy to get along with sort of bikes and should suit your needs well. Take test rides of all before you make your decision.

Hi, I would like your suggestion on a good bike for my needs. I am 40 years old, 5'9" tall, weigh 115 kg, and have a family. My daily commute is 72 km. The road conditions are around 6 out of 10, considering potholes and speed breakers. Traffic is above average; if I were to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the least and 10 is the highest, I would rate it 7. I am open to both ICE and electric bikes. I would also prefer a bike that offers good fuel efficiency.

Given your long daily run with lots of traffic and bad roads, a simple commuter would be the best fit for your usage. In the 125cc segment, look at options like the TVS Raider, Honda Shine / SP125 and Hero Super Splendor/Xtreme, depending on your design preferences. In the 160cc class, options like Honda Unicorn / SP160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N160 are our top picks. Depending on your budget and fuel economy requirements, pick between the class of bikes that best suit your needs.

I want to buy the Honda Unicorn, as I travel 70 km daily. Earlier, I used an Activa, but it caused back pain. Can you guide me whether I should go for Honda Unicorn or something else?

Verified

The Honda Unicorn will make for a good upgrade over your Activa, given your daily 70km stint. Commuter motorcycles are some of the most comfortable and fuss-free machines you can buy today, especially so in the case of the Unicorn. If you want alternatives to the proven Honda, look at the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V for a sportier, more feature-rich experience without sacrificing comfort and usability. A test ride of all three will help determine which is the right one for you.
