Royal Enfield Shotgun 650

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is built around a distinctive bobber-inspired design that immediately stands apart from the rest of the company's lineup. Its long, low stance, floating single seat and muscular proportions give it a strong visual identity. The motorcycle feels premium throughout, with metal switch cubes, metal fenders, side panels and headlamp surround contributing to an impressive sense of quality and solidity.

Attention to detail is excellent, although a few styling elements may divide opinion, including the upward-swept exhausts and the visible gap between the rear wheel and fender. Even so, the Shotgun's design is one of its biggest attractions.

The single seat is wide and well-padded, while the overall ergonomics strike a balance between style and comfort. The handlebars do require the rider to lean forward slightly, which may not suit everyone.

The Shotgun 650 is powered by the Royal Enfield's familiar 648cc parallel-twin engine. The motor delivers smooth, enjoyable performance with a strong mid-range and a pleasing exhaust note that adds plenty of character to every ride.

With 47hp and 52Nm, performance feels brisk, and the engine is equally happy cruising on the highway or tackling a twisty road. More importantly, it complements the Shotgun's laid-back personality well, delivering its performance in a relaxed and approachable manner rather than an aggressive one.

Despite weighing 240kg, the Shotgun feels stable and reassuring once on the move. It remains planted at highway speeds and carries that same composure into corners.

The Showa suspension has a firm edge to it, but it absorbs road imperfections reasonably well without feeling harsh. While the motorcycle is comfortable, it is not especially plush, and comfort takes a slight hit from the forward-leaning handlebar position. One thing to keep in mind is the low 140mm ground clearance. Speed breakers and rough roads may require a little extra caution.

The Shotgun 650 gets an analogue-digital instrument cluster with the Tripper navigation display as standard. Other equipment includes an LED headlight, USD fork and dual-channel ABS.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is not the most versatile motorcycle in the 650 range, and everyday usability is affected by its weight, low ground clearance and physical size. However, for riders who value individuality and want something that stands apart from conventional roadsters and cruisers, the Shotgun delivers a distinctive experience. Backed by a smooth and enjoyable parallel-twin engine, strong build quality and a comfortable riding position, it is a motorcycle that prioritises style and personality without becoming completely impractical.
