KTM 390 Adventure X Expert Review
8.0
The 390 Adventure X gets a bright headlight with strong illumination and a new high-resolution TFT display instead of the older monotone LCD. The vibrant screen adds a premium feel, while the switchgear quality is solid overall. The main omission is the cruise-control rocker switch.
8.0
The 390 Adventure X has an upright and commanding riding position, similar to the standard 390 Adventure. Its seat height is slightly lower, making it a little more accessible. However, the large windscreen is not adjustable, and the firm seat can cause discomfort after an hour or two of riding.
9.0
The X uses the same engine as the standard 390 Adventure and delivers similar performance. It feels calmer and more approachable because it essentially runs the equivalent of Road Mode. In testing, it completed 0-100kph in 6.04 seconds, making it the quickest bike in its segment. The light clutch also makes manual gear changes easy, although the quickshifter on the test bike required excessive force and was mostly unusable.
9.0
Despite its non-adjustable suspension and alloy wheels, the 390 Adventure X remains capable off-road. Its 200mm front and 205mm rear wheel travel allow it to handle most mild trails, although the smaller front wheel reduces confidence and feedback compared to the standard Adventure. On the road, the X's suspension feels more absorptive and comfortable over poor surfaces.
9.0
The 390 Adventure X gets Bluetooth connectivity, a TFT display, USB charging and switchable ABS. However, it misses cruise control, riding modes, cornering ABS, adjustable brake and clutch levers, tubeless spoke wheels and an adjustable front fork. Cruise control is the main missing feature, especially for long highway rides.
7.0
The 390 Adventure X is cheaper than the standard 390 Adventure. It offers most of the platform's performance and capability at a much lower price, making it the more sensible choice for buyers who do not need the extra equipment.
