KTM has introduced a new sub-350cc version of the 390 Adventure, allowing it to benefit from the lower GST 2.0 tax bracket. Like the updated 390 Duke lineup, the downsizing has been achieved by reducing the stroke, resulting in a slight drop in peak output figures.
This new model now carries the 390 Adventure name, while the bike that previously wore the badge has been renamed the 390 Adventure S. However, the smaller 390 Adventure shares more in common with the 390 Adventure X, so here’s a breakdown of what sets the two apart.
KTM 390 Adventure vs 390 Adventure X: What stays the same?
The chassis, brakes and core hardware are identical on both bikes
Both the standard 390 Adventure and the 390 Adventure X use the same split trellis frame. The suspension setup is identical as well, with a USD fork offering 200mm of travel at the front and a rear monoshock with 205mm of travel. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, and the bikes also share identical dimensions, including an 830mm seat height, 230mm ground clearance, and a kerb weight of 181kg.
The equipment list remains largely unchanged too, with both bikes featuring a TFT display, ride-by-wire throttle, slipper clutch, and a bi-directional quickshifter. Both also run alloy wheels in a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear configuration.
KTM 390 Adventure vs 390 Adventure X: Engine and performance
The Adventure X gets a larger 399cc engine with more power and torque
The primary difference between the two lies in the engine. The new 390 Adventure uses a 349.3cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 41.5hp at 8,600rpm and 33.5Nm of torque at 7,000rpm.
In comparison, the 390 Adventure X is powered by a larger 398.6cc single-cylinder engine, delivering 46hp at 8,500rpm and 39Nm at 6,500rpm – an increase of 4.5hp and 5.5Nm.
KTM 390 Adventure vs 390 Adventure X: Colour schemes
Both bikes are available in the same two colours
Both the 390 Adventure and 390 Adventure X are available in two colour options – Electronic Orange and Ceramic White. While the base colours are similar, the graphics and detailing differ between the two models.
Unlike the Duke range, where the 390 Duke R stands out clearly with its orange frame and wheels, the differences here are far more subtle. There are no major visual cues to easily distinguish between the two at a glance.
KTM 390 Adventure vs 390 Adventure X: Price
The KTM 390 Adventure is priced at Rs 2.81 lakh, while the 390 Adventure X costs Rs 3.43 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi), making the latter Rs 62,000 more expensive.
For that additional premium, you’re getting slightly more performance. Whether the extra power and torque justify the higher price will come down to individual preference, but on paper, the new 390 Adventure makes a strong case for itself by offering nearly identical hardware and features at a significantly lower price point.
