Honda Activa e Expert Review

The Activa e gets a much fresher look than the petrol Activa and is based on the CUV e: sold in Europe. Even though the design is modern, it still has the measured approach expected from a family scooter. The top RoadSync Duo variant comes with a large 7-inch TFT display, and the interface is simple and easy to use.

The Activa e does not feel like the petrol Activa from the saddle. The ride is noticeably firmer than the soft and squishy setup of the regular Activa, although it never feels harsh. The scooter remains comfortable to ride, and the overall riding experience feels easy and straightforward.

Acceleration is energetic in both Standard and Sport modes, and the scooter can reach an indicated 90kph without much effort. The swappable battery setup is easy to use, with depleted battery packs being replaced in less than two minutes at a Honda swapping station. However, the battery subscription plans cost roughly the same as running a 125cc petrol scooter, which reduces one of the biggest advantages of owning an EV.

The firm suspension gives the Activa e a more controlled feel than the petrol Activa, and the 12-inch wheels help it feel surefooted while changing direction. The extra weight is noticeable on paper, but the scooter remains easy to manage in everyday riding conditions.

The RoadSync Duo variant gets smartphone connectivity, notification alerts and navigation prompts through Honda’s app. The TFT display is a clear highlight, and the overall interface is very straightforward. A major drawback is that the scooter cannot be charged at home and depends entirely on Honda’s battery-swapping network. Underseat storage is also extremely limited because the battery packs are mounted there.

The Activa e is a pleasant, comfortable and well-rounded electric scooter with strong performance and good overall quality. However, the lack of home charging, the very small underseat storage and the battery subscription costs make it difficult to recommend widely in its current form.
