The Yamaha Aerox 155 scooter, which went on sale in September 2021, has fared far better than what the company expected. It brings Yamaha’s venerable R15 engine and a sporty, fun character to the table in a design never before seen in India.

Yamaha says that it never expected the Rs 1.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) scooter to receive such a positive response, and it has been overwhelmed with the number of bookings received. That in turn has led to long waiting periods – an issue compounded by the limited availability, as the Aerox 155 is only sold through a handful of Yamaha Blue Square dealers across India. Current waiting periods stretch up to 90 days, and so we reached out to the company to understand the reasons behind the delay and how it plans to reduce the waiting time for the scooter.

Yamaha Aerox 155: reasons behind long waiting period

The company says that, like the rest of the automobile industry, it too has been severely affected by the global semiconductor shortage and disruptions in supply chains. The company adds that most customers are aware of the situation and are willing to wait for the scooter. That said, there have been a few instances where customers have cancelled their bookings due to the long waiting time.

At present, the waiting time for the Yamaha Aerox in Black or Blue colours is anything between 45 to 60 days, while the Grey Vermillion colour has a waiting period of approximately 90 days. And if you were hopeful of getting the Aerox 155 in the Monster Energy MotoGP team colours, it is no longer available.

Yamaha plans to reduce Aerox 155 waiting period

Yamaha India says it is “ taking measures” to ensure that the Aerox 155 is being delivered as quickly as possible. A Yamaha dealer in Maharashtra, for instance,  said that while the official waiting time is 60 days, they’ve managed to deliver units within 45 days of booking.

Yamaha is also confident that, as the supply chain situation improves, it will be able to make the Aerox 155 available through all Yamaha authorised dealers and not just the Blue Square showrooms that the scooter is currently available in. This bit of news should come as music to the ears of those living in cities like Mumbai which don’t have a single Blue Square showroom yet.

What do you think of Yamaha’s decision to introduce the Aerox 155 in all Yamaha Authorised showrooms? Let us know in the comments.
