Triumph to expand its 400cc platform with a new cafe racer
Its launch seems closer than ever
Triumph’s upcoming 400cc cafe racer has been spotted testing multiple times in the past, but always heavily camouflaged or fitted with mock panels, revealing little in terms of design or expected colours. However, this latest sighting finally gives us a clear look at the motorcycle in its production form.

It is finished in a red paint scheme with silver diagonal stripes across the fuel tank and front half-fairing. The rear section also features notable changes, including a simpler tail-light design and a body-coloured rear cowl. The tail-light, in particular, appears noticeably simpler and more cost-effective compared to the flush-fitting, 3D-effect unit on the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, which stands out more in a crowd. Interestingly, a grab rail is also visible, suggesting the cowl can be replaced with a pillion seat. It will also feature the same digi-analogue instrument cluster as the Speed 400.
Triumph Thruxton 400 engine details
It will carry the same 398cc engine
This new model is expected to use the same 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine found on the rest of the 400cc Triumph range, producing 40hp and 37.5Nm. The chassis, suspension and braking hardware are also likely to be carried over.
Currently, the Bajaj-Triumph 400cc line-up consists of four models – Speed 400, Speed T4, Scrambler 400 X and Scrambler 400 XC. With the cafe racer’s design now fully revealed, its launch appears imminent, and it will be interesting to see where Bajaj positions it in the line-up in terms of pricing.
