Royal Enfield 650cc model sales in India.

Midsize motorcycle market leader Royal Enfield has registered total wholesales of 2,04,686 motorcycles in the first three months of FY2025. This is down 1 percent from its year-ago dispatches to showrooms, but the company has registered stellar growth in the 500-800cc market in India.

Royal Enfield’s four 650cc models powered by the same 648cc engine – Continental GT 650, Interceptor 650, Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 – continue to see strong demand and have helped prevent a higher decline in its sales.

The company has several models based on this platform in the pipeline, and the next two waiting in the wings are the Classic 650 and the Interceptor Bear 650

As per the latest industry wholesale data from SIAM, between April and June 2024, the Chennai-based company’s sales of 500-800cc bikes rose 79 percent year on year to 11,943 units, giving it a 96 percent share in the segment.

The 500-800cc sub-segment is the only one where Royal Enfield has seen growth. In the 250-350cc segment, its sales declined 3% year on year to 1,83,450 units, and its market share stood at 94 percent. Likewise, in the 350-500cc segment, where it has the Scram 411 and the new Himalayan 450, sales fell 14 percent to 9,293 units.

India Kawasaki Motors, with 184 units and 74 percent YoY growth, is ranked second in the 350-500cc category. The company currently retails the Ninja 650, Versys 650, Vulcan S, Z650, Z650RS and the ZX-6R in this range.

Twenty-two units behind Kawasaki is Triumph Motorcycles India (managed by Bajaj Auto now), which retails the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660, with 162 units sold, up 238 percent YoY.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, with 78 units of the Transalp XL750, ranked fourth, followed by Suzuki Motorcycle India with 36 units of the V-Strom 800DE.

In the midsize motorcycle segments, the 500-800cc category has seen the highest YoY growth – 81 percent compared to 73 percent in the 350-500cc segment and 250-350cc segment (down 3.50 percent).
