KTM 390 SMC R was recently showcased at the 2024 edition of EICMA. KTM did not disclose any specifications for the SMC R then, but now it has revealed data for the motorcycle on its official website.

  1. The 390 SMC R weighs 11 kg less than the 390 Duke
  2. It has a rectangular 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity
  3. Gets radial-mounted calipers compared to axial-mounted on Adventure line-up

KTM 390 SMC R details

Powering the 390 SMC R is the same 399cc, single-cylinder engine as the 390 Duke, but in Europe, this motor is rated for 44.9hp, a little lower than the India-spec 390 Duke, which makes 46hp. It is likely that when the 390 SMC R comes here, it will be making the full 46hp, just like the Duke.

The SMC R gets a single-piece seat with a height of 860mm. This motorcycle tips the scale at just 154 kg (wet weight, without fuel), which is 11kg less than its sibling, the 390 Duke. As for design, the 390 SMC R draws inspiration from its elder brother, the 690 SMC R. It gets an upright rider triangle in typical supermoto fashion. The single-piece seat flows and merges with the 9-litre fuel tank, which is 6 litres smaller than the Duke’s.

The 390 SMC R features a smaller, rectangular 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, aiding riders to access music, calls and turn-by-turn navigation. The TFT display also helps the rider to switch between the three riding modes: Rain, Street and Race.

KTM 390 SMC R full specifications revealed; India launch this year

Suspending the 390 SMC R is a WP USD fork with 230mm of travel, which is adjustable for rebound and compression. At the rear, there’s a monoshock adjustable for rebound and preload with the same travel. We reported late last year that the KTM 390 SMC R was spotted testing in India. That specific test mule had alloy wheels and non-adjustable suspension. It remains to be seen if Bajaj will offer adjustable suspension and tubeless spoke wheels on the India-spec model.

Handling braking duties on this supermoto are Bybre branded radial calipers and discs on both ends, the same as the 390 Duke. In comparison, the KTM Adventure 390 S and Enduro R get axial-mounted calipers. These radial-mounted calipers are of superior quality and inherently offer more stopping power.

In typical KTM fashion, the 390 SMC R will also feature switchable rear ABS with supermoto mode. The European-spec 390 SMC R has 17-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Power 6 rubber – 110 section in front and 150 section at the rear. It remains to be seen what tyres the India-spec SMC will be shod with.

Some of the other 390 Adventure models headed our way are the Adventure S and Enduro R. The 390 Adventure S is likely to come with bigger 21-inch/18-inch spoked wheels this time around.

KTM 390 Enduro has a typical KTM dual-sport design language, with sharp, minimalist bodywork and a tall, beaky front fender. The only road-biased element on the Enduro is the underbelly exhaust.

Finally, that leaves us with the topic of the range-topping 390 Adventure R. This bike is not immediately being considered for an India launch, thanks to its tall 885mm seat height and the fact that it will be quite expensive to produce. However, it could be brought here later if there is demand for it.

The KTM 390 Adventure S and Enduro R are launching in the coming weeks, and the 390 SMC R is scheduled to come by the second half of the year.
