Bajaj has announced that it is exploring the possibilities of hydrogen-powered vehicles under its subsidiary, Chetak Technologies Limited (CTL). While it is still early days for this project, Bajaj could very well become the first Indian manufacturer to bring a production model with a hydrogen engine to the market.

  1. Bajaj Auto ex-CTO is now CTL’s MD
  2. Bajaj now owns Yulu and builds its e-bikes

CTL will explore the potential of hydrogen vehicles, further expanding Bajaj Auto's ability to deliver technologically differentiated products. Currently, no Indian manufacturer is known to be working on a hydrogen-powered two-wheeler, although the Japanese Big Four have come together to develop hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Bajaj has appointed Abraham Joseph as managing director of Chetak Technology Ltd. Joseph was previously the CTO at Bajaj Auto Limited, where he was instrumental in leading the development of iconic brands like the Pulsar, and overseeing the creation of other models like the Platina, CT, Avenger, and Dominar.

Ramtilak Ananthan will step into the shoes of Abraham Joseph and assume the role of chief technology officer for Bajaj Auto Ltd. In 2013, he was promoted to vice president – R&D, where he spearheaded the transition of all Bajaj Auto products to the BS4 emission norms. Later, in 2019, he assumed the role of head – Test & Validation, overseeing the transition of all Bajaj Auto products to the Euro 5/BS6 and OBD2A norms.
