Tesla has widened its Model Y lineup in India by introducing a long-wheelbase variant for the crossover. Called the Model Y L, the new variant offers more range and seating capacity compared to the standard-wheelbase counterparts, and it also adds a front-wheel-drive motor to enable AWD. Here, we compare the Model Y L with the standard Model Y versions on those points, along with features and price.
Note that the carmaker has only partially revealed India-spec details so far, so wherever necessary, we have referred to the Australia-spec version, which is also right-hand drive. For exact details, it is best to check with the nearest Tesla showroom.
Tesla Model Y L vs standard variants: Prices
The Model Y L is priced at Rs 61.99 lakh, which is Rs 2.1 lakh more than the range-starting RWD version. Interestingly, it's Rs 5.9 lakh cheaper than the Model Y Long Range RWD, despite offering an AWD electric motor setup.

The Model Y L has a 3,040mm wheelbase, which is 150mm longer than the standard versions. It's also bigger overall, measuring 4,976mm in length and 1,668mm in height, making it longer by 186mm and taller by 44mm. Ground clearance is up slightly too, by 2mm at 169mm.

**with a Tesla Supercharger.
Both the Model Y Long Range and the Model Y L use an 83kWh battery pack and support a maximum charging speed of 250kW. Even so, the Model Y L manages to go 20km farther on a full charge. That is notable, considering it's the larger car here and also gets an all-wheel-drive setup, which should add more weight. It also adds 21km more range in a 15-minute Supercharger top-up, with 288km compared with the Model Y Long Range's 267km. Performance from rest is stronger too, with the Model Y L hitting the 100kph mark in 5 seconds, slightly quicker than the Long Range's 5.6 seconds.
At the other end of the range, the standard Model Y RWD gets the smallest battery here at 63kWh. That leads to the relatively lowest single-charge range of 500km. Also, it has the slowest 0-100kph time at 5.9 seconds, and supports a maximum charging speed of 175kW.
Tesla claims it has updated the suspension system for this long wheelbase version, and it comes with adaptive suspension and electronic damping shocks. It is also offering a standard 4-year or 80,000km warranty on the Model Y. The battery and drive unit are covered for 8 years or 1,92,000km.
Tesla Model Y L vs standard variants: Features
Visually, the Model Y L looks very similar to the standard versions, aside from its different wheel design. In profile, the longer rear doors stand out, along with a slightly tweaked roofline and a larger rear quarter glass. At the back, it also gets a more pronounced boot lid spoiler. There's also a 'Model Y L' badge on the tailgate to mark out the longer, six-seat version.

The Model Y L's cabin is largely unchanged, and carries over a minimalist layout for the dashboard. As before, nearly everything is controlled through the 16-inch central touchscreen. Even the 5-seater models feature a 16-inch touchscreen, up from the 15.4-inch unit offered previously. An 8-inch touchscreen for rear passengers is on offer as well. The list of common features also includes powered, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lights, powered front and rear AC vents, a panoramic glass roof, heated steering wheel and windshield, dashcam and eight cameras.

The Model Y L adds a few more comfort features over the standard wheelbase versions. It gets an upgraded sound system with 18 speakers and a subwoofer, compared with the 9-speaker setup in the standard and Long Range variants. The front seats also get thigh support extensions. As a six-seater, the Model Y L uses captain seats in the second row, which gets electric armrests, one-touch folding, ventilation and heating. The third row also gets powered recline, one-touch folding and dedicated AC vents.
In India's premium EV space, the Model Y takes on rivals like the BYD Sealion 7 (Rs 49.40-54.90 lakh), BMW iX1 LWB (Rs 51.40 lakh), Kia EV6 (Rs 65.96 lakh), Volvo EC40 (Rs 59 lakh) and the Mini Countryman Electric (Rs 55.65-60.7 lakh).
Prices mentioned above are as of April 22, 2026 in Delhi, and they are subject to change.
