Head-up displays (HUDs), once exclusive to high-end luxury cars, are now becoming popular in affordable, mass-market vehicles as safety takes centre stage. An HUD shows key info like navigation, real-time fuel efficiency, engine revs and warnings right in the driver’s line of sight, reducing the need to look away from the road. Here are the six most affordable cars in India that offer this feature.
6. Mahindra BE 6
Rs 26.90 lakh-27.65 lakh

The Mahindra BE 6 is the most expensive SUV to get an HUD here, offering it only on the Pack Three top variant, which gets a 286hp electric motor that sources power from a 79kWh battery pack. However, the BE 6’s HUD features augmented reality (AR) technology, and the newly launched Tata Sierra is the only other model in this list to have it.
5. Tata Sierra
Rs 17.99 lakh-19.99 lakh

The Sierra is the only model in Tata’s line-up to get a head-up display. However, it is available exclusively in the Accomplished trim. The unit projects colour-coded navigational and ADAS-related information. The Sierra’s powerplant options include a 106hp 1.5-litre petrol, a 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 118hp 1.5-litre turbo-diesel.
4. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara / Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder
Rs 15.20 lakh-19.57 lakh / Rs 15.73 lakh-19.57 lakh

The Grand Vitara is one of the four Maruti cars in this set to come with an HUD. The top-spec Alpha trims of the Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid and mild-hybrid have the feature. Similarly, the Toyota Hyryder, Vitara’s badge-engineered sibling, gets it in the range-topping mild and strong hybrid V trims. The strong hybrid versions have a 1.5-litre petrol engine, with a 116hp combined output, while the mild-hybrid models’ 1.5-litre petrol motor develops 103hp. Availability of manual and automatic gearbox options varies by brand and powertrain.
Dual-tone options cost an extra Rs 15,400 and Rs 19,300 for the Grand Vitara and Hyryder, respectively.
3. Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Rs 11.51 lakh-12.86 lakh

Shifting to the sub-4-metre or compact SUV segment, next comes the Maruti Brezza, which gets the driver-specific display in the top ZXi+ variant. Powering the Brezza is a 103hp 1.5-litre petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission gearbox options.
Dual-tone options cost Rs 15,400 extra.
2. Maruti Suzuki Fronx / Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
Rs 10.56 lakh-11.84 lakh / Rs 10.63 lakh-11.91 lakh

The second Maruti and Toyota pair out here to offer an HUD is the Fronx and Taisor. The respective top models of the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor – Alpha and V – get the display. Both pack a 100hp 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with MT and AT choices.
Dual-tone options cost an extra Rs 14,000 and Rs 14,600 for the Fronx and Taisor, respectively.
1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno / Toyota Glanza
Rs 8.60 lakh-9.10 lakh / Rs 8.98-9.15 lakh

The Maruti Baleno is the most affordable car to offer an HUD with its Alpha trim. Its badge-engineered sibling, the Toyota Glanza, also offers the display in its V trim. Both hatchbacks are powered by a 90hp 1.2-litre petrol engine, which can be paired with a manual or an AMT unit.
