Mahindra Racing will continue competing in Formula E until at least 2030. The Indian team has been part of the all-electric championship since its inception in 2013 and has now officially committed to the Gen4 era, which will run from 2026 to 2030.

  2. Formula E Season 12 kicks off with the Sao Paulo E-Prix on December 6

Mahindra to stay in Formula E as a manufacturer

Porsche, Stellantis, Nissan and Lola had all already committed to Gen4, leaving Mahindra as the only existing manufacturer to confirm its participation. It is understood that Mahindra was evaluating whether to continue as a manufacturer or switch to being a customer team. The team has now confirmed that it will indeed continue competing as a manufacturer.

Speaking to Autocar India at the Jakarta E-Prix earlier this year, Mahindra Racing CEO and team principal Frederic Bertrand shared that the team was keen to retain its manufacturer status. “It makes sense in terms of keeping the level of performance and also creating some track-to-road synergies within the group, giving some more information to Mahindra Research Valley and to the car side of Mahindra,” he explained.

This follows a resurgent Season 11, where Mahindra finished fourth in the teams’ championship. After three difficult years, the team has once again returned to consistent points-scoring form. The goal for the upcoming Season 12, which kicks off in December, will be to further build on that with the M12Electro.

Further strengthening its ties with Mahindra’s automotive division, the M12Electro now carries the company’s Born EV logo, also seen on the BE 6 and XEV 9e. “Formula E is a powerful platform for innovating new technology, giving us the ability to experiment, learn, and advance electric powertrain efficiency, sustainable materials and software intelligence,” said Mahindra Racing Chairman R Velusamy.

“As we step into the Gen4 era, our ambition only grows stronger. Continuing this journey till 2030 is a testament to our belief in the sport, in electrification, and in India’s role in leading global sustainable mobility.”

Formula E Gen4 car details

Formula E’s new Gen4 race car will make its debut in the 2026-27 season (Season 13). Key updates will include up to 815hp of power (while using Attack Mode), permanent all-wheel drive and two different aerodynamic configurations.

Battery capacity goes up from 47kWh to 55kWh, and energy recuperation will also increase from 600kW to 700kW. Both of these should give teams more energy to play with.
