Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Sunday confirmed a breach of its customer database. Following an internal audit, the company had informed in October that the email addresses and customer management numbers of over 2.96 lakh customers were potentially leaked since July 2017.

As an extension of that case, the company said that it has been notified by one of its service providers of an incident that might have exposed personal information of some of TMK’s customers on the internet. The carmaker added that the extent of the intrusion is still being confirmed.

Toyota said that the competent authority, CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has been notified.

The company added that it will work with its service providers to further enhance the existing guidelines and is fully committed to avoid any kind of inconvenience to customers. “We sincerely apologise for any concern this may have caused our customers”, Toyota said.
