What we liked

  • Ride and handling are the highlight here, because there is only slight firmness at low speed and the car absorbs potholes easily while staying composed as speeds rise.

  • The steering gives a good sense of connection and needs very little effort at parking speeds, which is rare in this class.

  • The 345-litre boot is the largest in the class, and the CNG version still leaves 210 litres usable because it splits the gas into two slim tanks.

What we did not like

  • Noise insulation is not good enough, and both road noise and wind noise around the wing mirrors are noticeable when you are cruising.

  • The diesel is loud, clattering at idle and staying noisy right through the rev range.

  • The CNG version runs out of comfort on expressways and makes an audible whine when revved hard.

  • The rear seat is a touch upright and taller passengers will find headroom only just adequate, while the thick front pillar blocks your view at junctions.

The 2025 Tata Altroz facelift builds on the original’s sharp silhouette with thoughtful changes rather than a radical overhaul. Upfront, a slimmer grille with a larger Tata badge and reprofiled bumper give it a fresher face, while slim LED daytime running lights and repositioned foglamps improve presence without being showy.

From the side, the Altroz retains its wedge stance and bold proportions. Changes are subtle — new alloy designs and refreshed tail-lamp graphics — but they sharpen the overall look. The standout remains the floating roof effect and sculpted beltline which keep the hatch feeling dynamic.

Mechanically, there are no surprises: the same torsion beam rear suspension and MacPherson front setup remain. The Altroz continues to prioritise ride composure and everyday stability over outright sportiness.

The Nexon offers a higher ground clearance, more features, and stronger engines than the Altroz, but its higher variants are much more expensive. The Altroz, meanwhile, is more maneouvrable in the city and costs less to run.

The Altroz offers a well-built cabin with lots of features, good amounts of space, and fuel-efficient powertrains.

The Tata Altroz delivers a very absorbent ride quality, easily soaking up undulations at low speeds and maintaining composure on the highway.

Despite its compact dimensions, the Altroz offers lots of space and a comfortable cabin. The rear bench can accomodate three average-sized adults in decent comfort.

The Altroz is the only hatchback in India to offer a diesel engine option, specifically a 90hp 1.5-litre mill. If you frequently go on highway trips, the Altroz diesel is your best bet. If your usage is primarily in the city, go with the petrol/CNG variants of the Altroz.

It offers a proper torque converter automatic, strong highway performance, good ground clearance and a comfortable ride, making it a meaningful upgrade over the Altroz Turbo Petrol. The wide cabin also makes it a comfortable five-seater for long journeys.The key trade-off is the boot space, which is one of the smallest in the segment. If luggage capacity is a priority, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza automatic is the better alternative. It offers a reliable ownership experience, good ground clearance and a comfortable ride, but the engine is less powerful and the overall driving experience is not as engaging as the 3XO.Overall, the 3XO strikes the best balance between highway comfort, performance, ground clearance and value within your budget. If boot space is a deal-breaker, go for the Brezza instead.

I'm driving Tata Altroz NA petrol manual for the past five years. Now, I want to switch to a diesel engine since most of my running would be on rough terrain and ghat roads. My yearly running is around 15,000 km. I am looking for a used Nexon diesel due to budget constraint. I live in Mangalore. Would it be a good option or should I look for some other brand/model?
