I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs. 25 lakh. Currently driving a Tata Nexon Petrol. I am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV (on-road Rs. 24.7 lakh) and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70 kWh (on-road Rs. 26.2 lakh, which may come close to Rs. 25 lakh with festive discounts). I like the Hector Tomahawk EV's minimalist interior and single-screen layout, which feels sufficient for my needs. However, the XEV 9e has much better road presence and looks more premium. I also prefer a clean dashboard over the XEV 9e's triple-screen setup. My priorities are reliability, family comfort, long-term ownership, daily usability, and value for money. I'm based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom/service centre is very close to my home, which is a plus. Which one would you recommend and why?

It seems like you're leaning towards the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. This MG car is a well-priced three-row, feature-loaded EV. Even though we haven't extensively tested the Tomahawk EV yet, given our past experience with MG offerings, they deliver healthy range and are very easy to drive, with light controls. And having the flexibility of a third row of seats is something you don't get with the Mahindra XEV 9E. On the flip side, the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh will not only be more efficient, resulting in better real-world range, but it is also nicer to drive, and certainly has stronger road presence. The festive discounts only improve its value quotient. In summary, the Hector Tomahawk EV is a good product, but the XEV 9e is a future-proof and better-engineered EV.

I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs 25 lakh. I like the minimalist interior and single-screen layout of the Hector Tomahawk EV. It feels practical and has all the features I need. However, I feel the XEV 9e has better road presence and overall appeal. I generally prefer a clean, simple dashboard over the triple-screen setup in the XEV 9e. Go for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, as it seems to fit your brief better. While the Tomahawk EV is a new product, MG has a proven history with EVs in India, with models such as the ZS EV, Comet and Windsor, and more recently the M9 and Cyberster. This includes aftersales and service, with its dealerships well prepared to handle EVs, which should give you peace of mind when it comes to long-term ownership. As you have noted, the Tomahawk EV has a practical cabin and a clean interior without a passenger screen. The fact that the MG showroom and service center are very close to your home is also a significant advantage for long-term ownership and convenience. The Mahindra XEV 9e is a very good product with strong road presence, but the triple-screen setup is something you are not keen on, and it adds complexity that you do not need. It's also more powerful, and though it has the longer range on paper, in real-world use the difference may be less. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is also better value for money at around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and it leaves room in your budget for a higher variant or additional accessories.

I want to buy an EV, but I’m confused between the Mahindra XEV 9e and the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. Please suggest which one would be the better choice.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is the one to go for if you need a third row, comfortable seats and a spacious boot. Just check how much luggage space remains with all three rows in use.Otherwise, we’d recommend the Mahindra XEV 9e. It’s the stronger overall product, with better performance, better ride and handling, and a more impressive spread of features. Its cabin is comfortable too, but feels more refined and far more plush than the Tomahawk’s.The MG, in comparison, feels rather ordinary, with exterior and interior designs that don’t particularly stand out. On the road, its front-wheel-drive layout doesn’t deliver the same balanced, satisfying driving experience as the rear-wheel-drive 9e. That’s a comparison between these two cars, rather than a blanket judgement on front-wheel drive. If you don’t need seven seats, this Mahindra car would be our pick. And if a third row is essential, we’d recommend considering the Mahindra XEV 9S as well. We think it’s an even better option and worth a back-to-back test drive with the Tomahawk before you decide.

I am buying a new seven-seater EV and have shortlisted the MG Hector Tomahawk Exclusive and Kia Clavis SR HTX. I am confused about which one to choose. The Clavis has better build and ride quality, but it uses a smaller NMC battery and does not come with a 7.5kW charger. The MG Tomahawk is slightly larger and offers better range, although I have some concerns about its build and ride quality. I expect to drive around 2,000km a month, mainly in semi-urban Goa, with a mix of short highway and city driving. I am not planning many outstation trips. Which one would suit my usage better?

Goa, 2,000 km a month, semi-urban mix, mostly short highway and city runs, not many outstation trips, that’s a very clear brief. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV Exclusive is the better fit here. The bigger battery and better range are exactly what you want at this usage level, and the fact that you’re not doing long outstation runs means you’re not going to be pushing the car into situations where charging infrastructure becomes a headache. The Clavis SR HTX is the more polished product, but the smaller NMC battery and the lack of a 7.5kW charger are real drawbacks at 2,000 km a month. The MG’s size is also an advantage, but the Kia Carens Clavis EV actually has a better third row. The Tomahawk's ride and build quality are not as tight as the Clavis, but they’re not deal-breakers either. Overall, the MG Hector Tomahawk Exclusive offers better value for money for your usage.

Which is the best electric SUV with seven seater capacity under Rs. 25 lakh?

Verified

Your choice boils down to the MG Hector Tomahawk EV and the Mahindra XEV 9S, both capable, practical and spacious electric SUVs with seven-seat options and prices that start around Rs 25 lakh or below. The Tomahawk EV is well-priced and offers good value, but we think the XEV 9S is the more compelling package, thanks to its stronger performance, superior ride quality and better-appointed cabin.
