Maruti Suzuki Swift FAQs
The Maruti Suzuki Swift is known for its sorted driving dynamics, well-equipped interior and high fuel efficiency. The lower and mid-spec variants are also priced well, but the top-spec variants have similar prices to the more premium Baleno, which makes choosing the Swift tougher.
Questions you may find useful
I am looking for a car with a budget below Rs 10 lakh. My usage will be mostly on highways, with a 500-600 km trip to my native place and back from Bangalore approximately once every two months. I don’t need the car much for daily city commuting, as my office is nearby. I have shortlisted the Maruti Swift, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Hyundai i20. Considering my usage, I would like to know which car would be the best overall, especially in terms of: Highway comfort and stability Low body roll Low driver/passenger fatigue on long journeys Comfortable suspension and seats Highway performance and overtaking ability Safety and build quality Fuel efficiency Ease of driving for a beginner If there are any other cars under Rs 10 lakh that you think would suit my requirements better, please suggest those as well. I would like to keep them in consideration.
For your usage pattern, the Maruti Baleno or Toyota Glanza would be the most sensible choices. Both cars are essentially the same underneath, so the decision comes down to dealership experience and after-sales support in your area. The Baleno/Glanza offer a more spacious cabin than the Maruti Suzuki Swift, making them better suited to long-distance highway runs, and now get the same 3-cylinder engine too - the Toyota Glanza facelift is soon to launch. The suspension is well-tuned for Indian roads, and the seats are comfortable enough for extended journeys, which will help reduce fatigue on your 500-600 km trips. The Hyundai i20 is also a strong contender, with a more premium interior and a slightly more planted feel at higher speeds. However, the Baleno/Glanza has a more spacious rear seat and better fuel efficiency, which makes it a more practical choice for your requirements. In terms of safety, all three cars offer similar levels of equipment, but this Hyundai Car feels slightly more solidly built. If you are open to considering other options, the Tata Altroz is worth a look. It has a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, a solid build, and good highway stability. And if you stretch your budget slightly, you can get the diesel engine, which will be hugely beneficial on the highway in terms of performance and mileage, and is also better than the Altroz's own petrol engine. It's worth noting that all the hatchbacks you've shortlisted use naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engines, which, though adequate, might feel lacking out on the highway, where you will do most of your driving. Thus, we would also recommend checking out some turbo-petrol options that fall in your price range, such as the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Renault Triber, Hyundai i20 N-Line and Tata Punch, which all meet your needs well.
I’m looking to buy a car for a first-time woman driver who will primarily be driving in the city. I’m considering the Maruti Swift ZXi+ AGS and Skoda Kylaq Classic Plus AT. She prefers an upright seating position and the SUV stance, which makes the Kylaq appealing, but I’m not sure which of the two would be easier to drive, especially for a new driver. I already own an i20 MT, so I’m also wondering how the Swift and Kylaq would compare in terms of ease of driving and overall city usability.
Go for the Skoda Kylaq Classic Plus AT. Since she prefers an upright seating position and an SUV stance, the Kylaq is the better fit. The higher seating position gives a better view of the road, which is reassuring for a first-time driver, and the SUV-like stance makes it easier to judge the car’s corners in traffic. The 6-speed torque converter automatic is smooth and predictable, making city driving stress-free, but there is turbo lag which needs getting used to. Aside from that, the Kyalq is a good choice, compact enough to be easy to park and manoeuvre, while still feeling more substantial and confidence-inspiring than a hatchback. The Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXI+ AMT is a great city car and very easy to drive, but the AGS (AMT) gearbox is not as smooth as the Kylaq’s torque converter automatic, especially in stop-start traffic. Since you already own an Hyundai i20, the Swift would feel like a similar experience, whereas the Kylaq offers a genuinely different and more confidence-inspiring driving position. The Kylaq is the better long-term choice for her needs.
Hi, I am planning to buy a car but am confused between the Tata Tiago CNG and the Swift CNG.
Between the two, the Tiago iCNG makes more sense if the priority is keeping running costs low. It uses twin CNG cylinders mounted under the boot floor, so unlike the Swift CNG, it does not sacrifice as much usable boot space. It also has a slightly more powerful CNG engine and, importantly, is the only one of the two available with an AMT on CNG.The Swift CNG has the advantage in cabin space and overall refinement. It is 50mm longer in wheelbase and 51mm wider, so there is more room inside, and the 1.2-litre engine is smooth enough for everyday use. However, the Swift CNG is manual only and uses a single CNG cylinder, which takes up more of the boot area. The Tiago is also the more affordable option, with CNG prices starting significantly below the Swift.
I’m looking to buy my first car and am considering the Swift and Brezza Turbo. My budget is Rs. 10 lakh, and my monthly running will be around 500 km, mostly in Bengaluru, with occasional trips to Mysuru.
With only around 500km a month, predominantly in Bengaluru, the Swift is the more sensible first car. It is compact, easy to drive and park, has good visibility and will be considerably easier to live with in Bengaluru traffic. Your occasional Mysuru trips are also well within its capabilities. The Brezza makes sense if you specifically want an SUV, higher ground clearance and a more spacious cabin. However, the important point is that the new Brezza 1.0 turbo is manual only. The 1.5 petrol is the version available with the six-speed automatic. The turbo makes 110hp and 170Nm, so it is more responsive than the Swift, but it is not necessarily the better choice for such low annual running. For a first car and a Rs 10 lakh budget, the Swift also leaves more room to buy a well-equipped variant rather than stretching the budget for an SUV. If an automatic is important, the Swift AMT is worth considering for your usage.
